Being this guy:
the only 28mm for the S3/SP, I am wondering about its optical quality.
I could not find ANY photo on flickr taken with it, also the only opinion is a quick reference here:

How good is the lens? The 28mm is a fundamental focal length for me.

Pivoting my rangefinding
Hey all! Long time lurker - first time poster. I am currently at a photographic crossroads: considering selling all of my camera equipment and starting anew, but don't know which direction to invest in. What I'm looking for: 2 rangefinder bodies, any system, which can support 35 and 28mm...

How good is the lens? The 28mm is a fundamental focal length for me.

Look for reviews of the Leica mount, same optics.
Also for S mount there is the Voigtlander 28/3.5 SC Skopar, but that may be difficult to find

Also a happy owner of the Nikkor 28/3.5 in S mount. I haven't used the Voigtlander version so I can't compare.

I luckily found an LTM version a number of years ago when I was trying to complete my Nikon lens set for my Leica IIIc cameras. It's a decent lens, no complaints.
Like Brian I used it on an M-Monochrom and it rendered beautifully.
Best,

The 2.8cm W-Nikkor was based on the Zeiss Orthometar with an enlarged back element allowing a one-stop gain over the older design. I have used one for years and gotten excellent results.

... likes film again.
Taken with the LTM version over the years. I think that I replaced that lens with the Color-Skopar 28/2.8 but still vie the S-mount version. Interestingly, my copy of the S-mount version was much better than the LTM version.

I have that Nikkor and love it. Got my eye on an S4 right now - put a external finder permanently in the shoe and away I go with my three lens kit of 28, 50 & 105 & a 100' of Ilford XP2+

It's a good lens for sure. Sufficiently sharp in the center when wide open. Does need to be stopped down to f8 to be sharp across the frame.
Watch out for internal haze.
