August 29, 2005 was when the 30' (almost 10 meters) storm surge from Hurricane Katrina washed away most of the town of Waveland Mississippi. The next day, the levies in New Orleans gave way and everyone forgot about Waveland. I have been back there four times to visit, photograph and catch up on rebuilding progress. There are fewer and fewer residents as people abandoned their FEMA trailers and moved away. Waveland will survive but in a much smaller version of what it once was as there is little left for people to come back to.
