Lomo is good for film consumption. That's about it in my mind. If you want pictures like that, buy a cheep old consumer camera. At least you save the money and have some credibility of using a vintage camera to create a vintage effect. I have nothing against the "look". Like stated perviously, it is the fact that these cameras are expensive because they have plastic lenses and leak light.

Seriously.
3 people within 5 minutes this morning.
"oh. I thought you had a leica there for a minute. oh well."
It's a Canon P. It's not a piece of junk. Do I really need to buy another RF just to keep the masses happy? It can use Leica lenses...doesn't that count for something?
sniff.
I just like it. ok.

LOL!!!
You should count your blessings! at least people are commenting on your gear. I was at downtown (city name withheld) at noon, pulling out an ancient MF Folder, take some pictures, wander around for about 30 minutes, NOT A SINGLE PERSON notices, look, sniff, etc.
It's both hillarious and sad

Ah looky looky
I was walking around town shooting when I went to change the roll. There were some people watching me, so I said out loud to my wife "hold on a minute, I have to change the memory stick"
The onlookers were satisfied and the wife was laughing. It's was pretty funny.

I nearly punched them in the jaw. It was insulting on so many levels.
If that was enough to nearly punch someone you got some serious anger management issues.

I just visited the lomo site -- $250 for a Chinese LC-A+, $350 for dead stock Russian LC-A. Heck they're even selling Fed-5b's for $125. Those are some crazy prices. You can get a new Bessa-R and a good Jupiter8 for less than $350. Wow.

Lomos are pretty trendy right now. They sell them at a place called Urban Outfitters here. Its mostly clothing and some funky house stuff, but they also sell Holgas.. 70 frickin' dollars! Got mine for $20

At one point, they *were* cheap point-n-shoots. In the mid-late '80's, when I worked in a camera shop, we had about five of them. Could we sell one?? Nope... even at their price (£30, iirc) then as well!al1966 said:The cult of the lomo biggest f***in con in photography I saw one go for over a ton uk the other day for a cheep point and shoot????
Lomography... heh. Gimme a Leica anyday. At least the Standard makes people double-guess.

Walking around in Manchester (UK) with Leica M3:
"Nice camera, is that an M6?"
On Waterloo Bridge, London, with Zorki 1 and Industar 22:
"Nice camera, is that a Leica?"
(Very nice guy, asked to hold it and looked through the viewfinder, went away impressed).
But the best one - in the caves in Cheddar Gorge, Somerset, with Seagull TLR:
Small Child: "That's a funny camera Dad" (pointing at me)
Father (wisely): "That's a professional camera, son".
And several times (always with the M6):
"That's a real camera"

Exactly, the "cult of Lomo" is a marketing scam, if you want to take pictures with "the look" get a $15 holga and some rolls of 120.trittium said:Lomo is good for film consumption. I've had all sorts of reactions to my RF gear. The most recent thing
is that I've found that the "aged brown " color Luigi case on the M8 really
befuddles people. They think it is a film camera because of the "old"
looking leather. The M6 or MP in the black case or bare are stared at
and people ask"Is that a digital camera ?". I have learned a good response to this from reading this board. I just look calmly at the person and say
" No, but I'm saving up to get one."

But due to Lomo you cannot find a cheap Holga anymore. At least I can't.

Yep, the act of changing film is an attention grabber.
Most people don't know enough about cameras to identify one as anything but some digicam they just haven't seen before.
Sit down in a coffee shop to change film though and people notice.
Pull a polaroid out of its back for development and that really attracts attention.
