My second slr was the 101, bought it new about 1971, the light meter stopped working in the 80's and the camera locked up in 2000. My wife bought me a Nikon FM -10 to replace it. Always wanted another one but some how I always try something else when I get the rare gas pain, which my wife lets me have:^)

I know that Mustang. Must be good lenses. Too bad about the cat, but better than her suffering.

I got started on Nikons, but always thought the Minolta line would have been a good second choice. Couldn't afford two different systems when I was younger, but now I have been able to indulge in my curiosity in other brands. I've found for the most part that Minolta lenses are as good or better than the Nikkors. And were less expensive, until folks started mounting them on their DSLRs and m4/3s.

My first SLR was a SRT-101 with a 50/1.7 lens. I purchased it in 1969 in Puerto Rico at Ramey AFB. I also used a Vivitar T4 mount 200mm and 28mm. It died a horrible death in a motorcycle accident.

XE-7 is a great modern camera. XD-11 is a miniaturized denser version, more along the Pentax MX line of thinking. I have quite a few XE-7s and XE-1s, here are my main gripes compared to something like an F3:
1. Stupid on/off switch. Battery eater because it's so easily forgotten.
2. Great feeling advance, but it's known to start acting up - and when it does, the fix isn't simple.
Good notes:
1. Solid, intuitive.
2. Good svelte feeling advance (I prefer the thicker feeling of a Nikon F2, though).
3. Good metering.
4. DOF preview can be locked in all the time (Minolta typically did this kind of thing).

I flipped my motorcycle at 70mph and the SRT was between the bike and the asphalt. The front element of the lens was mostly ground off with about 2/3 of the focus ring remaining. This happened in 1971 in South Carolina. Later that year I purchased a economy SRT100 body and lens. That and the two Vivitars saw me through for a while. I faired a bit better than the Minolta with a broken wrist and a bit of road rash. The bike was a total write off.

I can't recall the model of Minolta I had for many years, along with a very nifty 24-35 zoom. One image I do recall is the advertising campaigns in National Geographic for Minolta cameras which always made them look very desirable objects.

My first real SLR was a SR-7 with a 58/1.4 Rokkor, bought used in January, 1979 when I was eleven years old. I sold it to my brother when I bought a brand new XG-2 in August 1979. The XG-2 gave up on me years ago. The SR-7 is probably still working, maybe I should get it back ...

Early 70's got an XE-1 with standard lens, then in 77-78 XD-7 and more glass, sold all Minolta gear when they changed the mount to Auto focus. Just lately got a SRT-101 and an XG-1 for next to nothing.

thanks all for the replies, I enjoy my SRT's as well . I was looking for more love for the SR 1,2,7 series of cameras. My fault they bot start with the SR prefix . I'm surprised there are not more XE-!,5,7,and B shooters.

Been using the x570 for a while, until it broke with the faulty capacitor problem.
Just won an ebay auction for 2 XE7s they should be here next week.

My Minolta SLR kit was a black XD-11 with motorized winder and about eight lenses. I owned and used it from 1978 to 1981, when I sold it off in exchange for a Mamiya 645 SLR kit. The Minolta was a fine camera, at the time I just couldn't afford two kits. (I did still have the pair of Leica IIs and two lenses, but at the time "they weren't worth anything" so I didn't even think of selling them.)
When I went back to 35mm SLRs, I went back to Nikon via a used FM and two new lenses. Aside from a brief dalliance with a Contax about 1985, I stuck with Nikon SLRs through until 2001 from then.
Minolta lenses appealed to me, and I remember in high school when the SRT-101 was available for about $130 with the 50/1.7 lens. A lot of my friends bought them, they were good cameras and well worth that money.

Like Biomed, my first camera (Summer of '69) was an SRT-101 (early) with the f1.7 lens. Sold it to my Sister & bought a Nikkormat. Now I buy SRT-101s & have a couple of SR7's. The meters are gone on the SR7s but the rest of the camera is solid. Minolta kept the lens mount the same so new glass/old glass is good glass on and SR(T). The "build quality" on the SR7 is amazing.

I have an SRT101, an XD11 and an XG1. Never had an XE but for my money the 101 and XD11 are world beaters. Thirty nine years ago the 101 was my first SLR..........I still use it!! The XD11 is my go to SLR usually loaded with Velvia. I think if there were more Minolta "purists" there would be more love.
