I was waiting for two 41 mm Uv filters for my summarit 50mm and xenon 1.5, Today BH mailed me telling me manufacturers wont made them anymore...:bang::bang:...
any comments about an easy way to protect my lenses??
Regards...
Bob.

Keep your fingers off the glass and either put the lens cap on while it's on the shelf or put the front lens down to keep dust off. Clean only when you manage to put a big greasy finger print on the lens.

Used filters? They do not gather much attention at the shows, perhaps now they will?

I was also offered custom cut filters at one of the shows by a dealer in filters from Detroit.

Lens shades offer a decent degree of protection as well.

Regards, John

filterfind.net is a good source for filters, and they often have hard-to-find solutions.

edit: ferider beat me to it. I have had dealings with filterfind.net, and they are a great source of filters, shades, step-up rings, and so on.

Igor gets pretty busy, but I know he has to have filters somewhere, I think I bought some Canon MIOJ era filters for Canon RF-- have not had time to look yet, they are in the case, it went in for an immediate CLA. ;-)

I did see a huge box of filters go for a few dollars at the last auction-- I gave Zu a box of Cokin filters I picked up.

I think I found a BH filter in the filter box at FotoSkoda for a couple of dollars, but you cannot rely on a scavenger hunt-- but it happens, it fit one of my Contax lenses.

Look for the appropriate Kodak or Tiffen adapter that will allow using Series VI drop-in filters, which are far more easy to find.

The kodak or Tiffen adapter is a bit hard to find on eBay, but once you find one they often don't cost that much since people don't know how limited the solutions to filters on Summarits are.

I bought a Summarit 50/1.5 last December and had the same problem, where to find filter ?

First attempt: I bought two Kenko filter (Japan), 41mm (one UVa and one Skylight 1a). The UV filter fits, the Skylight does not (different pitch)

Second attempt: Buying a step-up ring (custom-made, 41 -> 43), the pitch of the thread does not fit.

Third attempt: Buying a Tiffen series vi adapter with 41mm thread. The thread diameter was to small, despite being marked as 41...

Fourth attempt: Using a standard 40.5 UVa filter from my 40/2 M-Rokkor CLE. Fits perfect, no vignetting and I can use a 40.5 screw-in hood from heavystar (wide version) with hood cap. So far the cheapest and best solution.

Take it easy mate, just get the B+W 40.5mm UV MRC Filter, I'm actually using this filter with my Leica LTM Summarit 50mm f/1.5 :)

Hey don't forget hoods. There is a nice CV one with metal slip on cap from CQ. Fits perfect, works perfect, and does not block the vf too much.
