no one likes adorama?? just wondering

I have been dealing with Adorama for a number of years and have never been disappointed. All of my ordering is either by telephone or mail order. On the phone they are absolutely wonderful. As I have come to know their reps, they often clue me in to otherwise unknown sales from private parties. In my search for Zuiko lenses, Meyer has really gone the distance for me.

I've dealt with them twice only. In one case, the Minolta MD Macro TC I bought was a very loose fit on the camera, so I sent it back. The second time was a leather case for my AF Nikon camera... which they didn't have in stock. To their credit I should add that they didn't bill me until they shipped the case one month afterwards. The last time I purchased a hood for a Tokina lens (didn't find it in B&H), and it came within a reasonable time. It was used, but it was in as good a condition as they advertised it. BTW, I placed my order online, linking it to this forum.

Their used offers sound good... but their shipping charges are a bit high compared to all the options you get from B&H. Sometimes they have great film sales.

I only dealt with Adorama once and was treated with such rudeness and genuine stupidity that there is no danger of my do business with them again.

It is worth noting that Adorama farms out their warranty service to a shop in New Jersey. The shop which they use has a ghastly reputation for incompetence and non-delivery. There are many complaints about it posted on web.

If you make it past Adorama's sale staff, hope that you won't need warranty service.

I had good luck with them for purchases but I didn't get a warrenty with film....

I have had great experiences with them, both on the web and in person. Certainly better than in person at B&H where they tend to treat you like you wandered in drunk off the street (at least at the checkout counters and darkroom supplies...the Leica section and used section guys are very nice). That said, if it is back ordered at Adorama, just cancel the order. They can also be more expensive in shipping, so check with B&H. And don't buy an extended warranty, but that goes for B&H too. They can be a lot cheaper than B&H though, and they are still reliable and honest. If you want extremely personal service, you are better off with someone like Tony Rose, Rich Pinto or Tamarkin etc. If you need something extremely obscure, then you need Adorama or B&H.

I have dealt with Adorama with the purchase of a CV 35 wideangle lens. Of course got dinged the " brokerage" fee due being shipped by UPS across that imaginary line between Canada and the US. No real complaints.

It isn't those who seem to be happy with their dealings with Adorama, but rather the relatively large number of people who are more than dissatisfied with Adorama (this forum and other lists) than should be a cause for concern to anyone considering buying from that outfit.

Adorma would sell more gear outside the USA if they shipped through the post office, UPS way overcharges the customer, outside the United States...... a total ripoff IMHO.

I have made numerous purchases from Adorama, both in person and through ebay. Never Had a problem. Always curteous and treated me with respect.
