until the last minute. At least for me.

I know its probably the same for you, but how come I see so many other auctions with general bidding right from the start of their listing.

It doesn't matter what the starting price is of an item I list, or how many people are watching. Nobody will bid till the last 2 minutes. Last month: 43 watchers, .99c starting price and not one bid for 9 days.

:bang:

This process just makes it painful for everybody.

When I see an item I want I will place my max bid right away and wait. I can buy confidently after research and analysis of the item and auction, which unless questions need to be asked doesn't take very long.

Is anyone else with me?

No, I always tend to bid in the last ten seconds and have my pre-determined limit. I research as much as possible to find out what similar items have gone for previously and select my price limit. That way I'm not tempted to have another go. If the bid fails, then they'll be another one along at some stage. The only exception is when I'm not going to be around (as I work shifts) when an item is due to finish. Then I'll put in a bid just before leaving for work, or before going to bed.

I can't see what anyone achieves by bidding early. Do they think that by staking their claim they're going to put everyone else off?

I bid what I am willing to spend and then don't look again until I either win or lose. I bid once and am done. And I may watch something for a short while but usually I bid as soon as I've found an auction/seller I am comfortable taking a risk with.

No, I don't think that. But I bid when I do and don't need to bother with it until/if I win; either what I am willing to spend is enough or it is not and I am not tempted to up my bid.
I also do tend to prefer auctions that end when I know I will be away from my computer.

If there is a BIN as well as low starting bid point, an early bid will kill the BIN and hold the item and leave it dangling til the last few minutes.
I agree it's agravating.

Hmm To me it doesn' matter. I put all the interesting Items on my watchlist, determin which I want and how much I'm willing to pay and then I make my bid. It dosn't matter when you bid, only how much you bid. I have made a bid early on an Item that typically went for around 60€. I got it for 30€ maybe people wasn't paying attention. I have bought a 5 reel Jobo 15XX for 29,95€ and saw a similar one go for 58€
Best regards

I do not put my bid in early simply because I might see something I want more before the auction ends, and my budget is severely limited.

As well, if I have, say, $20 USD to spend in a two-week time period, I might see dozens of things I might like that are currently below that amount. I put a watch on all of them. Some will end up over $20, and then I take them off my watch list. Some might become less interesting to me after I spot something else, and I take those off my watch list too.

I don't spend a lot of time on eBay anymore, but once I've put in my max bid, I'm committed to spend that if I win, so I hold off until I'm sure, which may well be the last few hours of the auction.
