I just lost this auction by one flipping dollar!
Was this about the right price to pay for this lens? Weren't these lenses much cheaper a few years back?

Close one. Prices have increased in recent years. The M8 has had a hand in that.

I've read that the Noct's price has gone way up due to an extreme cost increase in one of the consittuents of one of the elements. The current price for a Noct with warranty and 6 bit coding on a couple of websites is just under $5500.

Leica jacked the price of a new one close to $6K probably because the owners are taking advantage of inelasticity WRT price. So used ones have gone up too.

Hello e'geek--think of it this way--you saved $3350.00!!! Leica raised the price of the Nocti because the mold for the front element had to be replaced. Or so the tale goes--the lens is made by Elcan in Canada and apparently, it is a painful process. Elcan is now owned by Raytheon, the defense manufacturer, so who knows--Noctis could be in spy cams!!! 🙂
$3300.00 will be about norm now.
Since you are an espresso geek--this is really OT--what kind of coffee grinder do you use?

OT post approved! I am using an innova conical burr grinder with electrical tape at the bottom of the hopper. If you can overlook its quirks its a good grinder. Money better spent would be on a good mazzer.
