I'm currently in the proccess of ordering my new MP with 0.85 VF, and I was just wondering how much will Noctilux block VF if at all.. Please help!!

I have the 58 mm thread f1 Noctilux. With the hood it blocks about a fifth of the 50 mm frame. E60 f1 Noctis with hood extended block slightly more, and the 0.95 asph Nocti again with hood extended blocks slightly more again.

The 0.85 is very nice with a Noctilux or 75 Summilux. But the 0.85 is more flare prone than the lower magnifications and even the MP finder flares sometimes.

Let us know what you think when you get it.

Just checked my E58 on a 0.85x MP and agree with Marty - about 1/5 of the 50mm frame. I also use the lens on my 0.72x with no focusing problems but I'm lucky enough to have very good eyesight. A Noctilux and a 0.85x magnification body is a great combo, you'll love it!

I wear glasses and the combination of 0.85x VF and Noctilux (E60 version with detachable hood) was best match regarding visibility of FL and focus accuracy (I had the 0.85x M6TTL for a while). Second best is 0.72x with a 1.25x VF magnifier from Leica but a good compromise since I only can see 35mm FL in the 0.85x barely. The M3 with 0.91x VF can't be topped, though.

I own the E58 noctilux and use it mostly on a mp .85x. Awesome combination for lowlight focussing. I do not notice the Vf blockage, it is that insignificant. And I am picky about vf blockage. btw, a 75 lux is a dream to shoot on the ,85x VF :)

Absolutely. The patch is so much clearer and more contrasty on a good M3 it's amazing. But sometimes a meter and/or aperture-priority auto exposure are nice.

Thanks guys for your help.. I just sent an order with configuration for my new MP. Very excited but the time frame for MP a la carte to build will be way more then 3 months. Arrrr....
