Now it is official, the legendary Noctilux has been discontinued. It is no longer in the pricelist (01.04.08) but appears on the official homepage.

Great! Now my Canon 50/1.2 is worth more, as it should be.
It has always been an undervalued lens.

So the new one will be announced at photokina.
Please, please, please Leica, don't change the Bokeh!
Lower the price, lighten the weight, lessen the impingement on the 50 mm frameline view, and please let it make a very creamy espresso!

Might be the right time to get the 1.4 while we can

just buy any 50mm lens with an f stop opening of f1.5 or greater.
do it now before sellers read all this on the RFF and jack up their price as is the norm.

I bought a Canon 50/1.4 and a J-3 50/1.5 the past few weeks. This is lucky timing.

This signifies the end of RF photography.
Probably a bit too harsh. Maybe better to say that it ends an era of RFF photography.

I don't think so.
Eliminating such an expensive lens means little to most of us here.
Not many people are able to spend over $1000 on any lens.
The exotic lenses can cost $4000 and up.

actually, i've heard that Leica wants to redesign it in order to make it work as true f/1.0 on their new medium format digital rangefinder.
It will be 6x45 format digi sensor, but horizontal, not vertical like the film rf's.
And with a 50mm f/1.0 it will be a super street combo.

Would you trade your Noct for the CV 35/1.4 which is very tiny?? didn't think so

If they discontinued the 35 Cron maybe, but the Nocti? Wouldnt say so. It looks more like a Dslr lens and is heavy as a car.

It signifies the end of RF photography as much as an announcement of McDonalds stopping to produce McNuggets would mean the end for Chicken meals around the world.

Hehe!
Actually I was answering to ampguy and just being funny.
As much as I love the Noctilux, I don't think its discontinuation means the end of RF photography.

Or more likely German-built ZM, as Zeiss is interested in 'landmark' lenses. And why only f/0.95? Canon has already done that. I'd back even faster. The fact that d-o-f will be zero and the lens will need to be calibrated to the body will only worry those 10-20% who buy it to use; the rest will buy it because it exists...
Cheers,
R.
