Noctilux Photos

If you really really want that lens you should go for it.... I have shot half a roll with it now and really keen to see the results ... :)

That was my reasoning when I ordered it

Now it's different because I definatly can't afford one at the new prices. Perhaps I should give up my dream of owning one from new and get a good second hand one. It's hard because from where I am I'd have to order one over the net or from e-bay and for that amount of money I'd sure like to hold it in my hand and inspect it before handing over my credit card! I guess the problem is that used prices are also highly inflated at the moment due to suppy and demand problems. Maybe now that they're in stock we can watch the market crash. Kind of reminds me of the final scene in the movie "Fight Club". They're up in the penthouse watching the city around them crumble, that Pixies track "Where is my mind?" playing...

Sapporo, various locations...

... all at f/1.0 (M4-P). Focussing with the M3 is easier but haven't scanned anything yet.

I think that was a scam (if we are looking at the same auction). If you look at the body of the auction, it said the "seller" would end the auction at $1000 if you e-mail him/her at an outside address.

BTW, great shots everyone. I am really enjoying this thread after all the arguing has subsided. Keep posting pictures!

Ned, thank you ! :) I keep trying ...

tomasis: Thanks ! 2000$ would be a great price but I agree with edhohoho that the Noctilux at Ebay you have spotted was a scam. However, just when I had purchased mine, there were two Noctilux lenses for ~ 3000$ at Yahoo auction in Japan... Anyhow, I like it so far.

But I don't see the problem, sorry. I was in Cuba on the 31st of december and each and every house on the whole island had a pig and it was rady to be roasted at 4pm so it could be ready at 9 or 10 for the New Year's celebrations. Cubans, from what I understood, impatiently wait for that moment 364 days a year. I think we must put down our own view and try to see with other people's eyes sometimes. That's what I did, and I liked what I saw.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

NB23 is right, that is a huge Cuban tradition, starting from the slaughtering of the pig to its preparation, roasting and final feast in the backyard...

BTW, a lot of cubans here in Miami still do it this way.

NB23, please show us more of your Cuba shots (whether you used a Nocti or not) since I am a big fan of your work.

Cheers,

Riccis

Ned - some of your shots seem to show extreme (ie black) vignetting - others not. Not all f1 shots I have seen are like this - are the less extreme ones just corrected in PS / LR or is the vignetting not a consistent factor?

You are probably seeing a lot of digital Noctilux shots where most of the vignetting has been cropped off.

mine are film and for the most part no pp

There is vignetting on some of mine, but pretty much invisible to me unless I do the following:

take a snow shot, and auto correct in picasa, this gives dark edges, were the dark edges there before? possibly, but not enough to bother me. I would not be surprised if it was designed in.

maddoc, your last shots look like shot with summicron at f2.8 :) Contrast is mindblowing.. thank you for the tips about yahoo.. it might be good idea to find a thing at "odd" places :D btw, dont you mind if you post pictures much larger sized? :D

edhoho, thank you otherwise I'd end up with grief "why I did miss it, your fool!" Something unreal is a scam for sure ;)

prosaic and tomasis: Thank you ! I would like to post the photos larger ... These are from my flickr account in "medium" size but "large" size is way to large... :bang:
As I remember, the developer was Tmax (but not sure ... ) could explain the high contrast.

- I find the Noctilux is a bit cumbersome for street shooting, yet I still I use it :)

maddoc, don't tell me it is because developer, hehe.. Prosaic's images show also how nocti is good at that ;)

anhtu, what wonderful images. The first picture I like most of all. Luckily it was Trix film, not a digital so I'd love enlarge this up at 30x40 :)

How easy/difficult is to focus Nocti on Rd1?
