Hay,
It that vignetting from the lens? I know the nocti has dark corners wide open but this seems excessive.![]()

Hi guys,
Is it true that with the M8, you don't get as much vignetting as with film?
I just brought a Leica Noctilux, the last version with the built in hood, and I don't notice any vignetting when I'm shooting wide open. Is this normal?
cheers,
Nico

Yes, with the M8 you're seeing a "cropped" picture of 1.33x, so you're effectively working at 67mm, whatever. With the M9 which is full frame you'd see the vignetting.

hi guys,
I'm just wondering if all versions of the Noctilux have the vignetting dark corners? I just brought a E60 with the built in hood, and wonder what's the difference between mine and all the previous models?
thank you,
Nico

They all vignette. Since you're using it on an M8 you won't see it because of the crop, but on full frame bodies you will as I explained above in post #796. All the pre-ASPH Nocti's are optically identical, it is thought that there were changes in coating through manufacture though.

Thank you for the help here, and one last thing is, so all Noctilux are pre-ASPH right? Thank you for helping a newbie here.

late F1.0 has minimal
late F1.0 has minimal
maybe ~1 stop in the edges, but not the -3 stops some reviews mention on full frame with proper exposure.
I think where the -3 stops came from is that when post processing light images (snow, sky), the auto algorithms often darken the edges significantly.
Here are some samples of non photoshopped full frame film images with little or no vignetting with the f1.0 on film:
