Apparently the increase in cost of a rare glass element used in the manufacture of the Nocti has led to $1500 price increase.

Wow. I wonder what that will do to used prices if anything? Probably bump them up a bit at least in the short term.

The B&H price is $3895.00 so that would make it $5395.00!

Price 5495
Price 5495
Is what Adorama is listing it for.
And B&H is back ordered for this lens, they'll probably correct when they restock.

The best camera is one that still works!
Hmmm ... my dreams of owning a Noctilux have just been reduced to delusions!
ps ... and oh yes , I think the 'Rare Gas' comment was very appropriate. ;-//

Tony Rose is listing a USA Passport w/6-bit coding for $5495.00 (no stock), a "used mint" w/6-bit coding for $3997.00, and a "used mint" (no 6-bit coding) for $3907.00. So he's selling his current stock at the old price and when they are gone the price will presumably go up...

My god, it is getting absolutely ridiculous! $5500 for a lens?! Mount that on a brand new USA M7 or MP and you're talking about a $9000 35mm body/lens combo!

"rare gas used in the production..."???
I wonder what this gas is, how it's used in Noctilux production, and how much of it the extra $1,500 will buy.
Or maybe somebody at Leica is sniffing this rare gas, and that's how they got the idea of using it as an excuse to stick the customer with a $1,500 price increase. If that's the case, I hope they include a sample vial with the purchase of a lens...

OH.. that is a huge increase.... I never expect any of my puchases to inflate in value (they almost always go down in value if resold used). Considering that a new one purchased for $3895 just inflated 38% and the resulting increase price of used, I would be tempted to sell mine if someone offered nearly $4k... considering I was fortunate to find mine for under $2500 just 2 years ago.
Then again... now that I think about it again... I probably wouldn't sell...... still ... Very tempting.....
My first gut reaction is that the price increase might also have something to do with the weakening US dollar.

the price is now utterly ridiculous. I have only just bought into the leica system and the insane price are now too silly (not that they were not silly before). Thats an extra $2700 for an extra stop over the 1.4 asph lux.....

It's a simple result of demand and supply ..... since this is the way we want our economies running .... it's a fair price

Makes my $400 Canon 50 1.2 Look even better... Sure the performance isn't quite as high. But I don't think the difference is 5k's worth.

If there's something that could sink Leica it's not Noctilux. The lens wasn't really a sales leader, or was it? Right now Leica Camera might have much bigger problem, but there's a different forum for that.
