Seems like the prices are going down. Actually the market is saturated, I've never seen so many Noctiluxes on ebay like these days. Who still hasn't sold one, missed the right time, but who has kept it, done the right thing

I bought my Nocti new in 2001 I use it wide open photographing Jazz concerts. I love this lens it is my work horse I would not trade or sell this lens. I never realized that it became so rare and cause photographers to envy those who own the lens.
I enjoy the dialog it's funny to me. Nocti shooters keep enjoying what you have.![]()
The only ones I envy are those who bought in 2001!
As others have pointed out, the lens is quite common and easy to get as people cash in on the bubble - if you are willing to pay the price. I think a lot of the argument here is from people who look at order of magnitude price increases for a lens that hasn't changed at all in decades as being irrational. That is countered by the people who have it, or want it at any price, in the age of the M8 and the relatively new phenomena of "boke lust".
The boke craze has turned Noctilux (and other extremely fast lens) defects and compromises into attributes. (Maybe Lomography helps out here as well!). It is a great, special purpose lens that has, perhaps, been driven into the stratosphere of prices by irrational exuberance and a desire to cash in on the craze by the manufacturer.
Still, I'd love to buy one - at the 2001 price!

I bought mine end of last year and since then never regretted it. Recently, I could use it for the first time for a concert shot and there it really helped (this lens and a Summilux 35 pre-ASPH). This lens is special, quite unique look when used wide open and very sharp (and not to much contrast) when stopped down.

Sold mine as I don't use it enough to justify keeping it.
