Noctilux w/ 1.4 Magnifier

I read when shooting @ full aperture one should be extra careful focusing due to the thin DOF. Anyone shooting with a magnifier to help with the focusing? TKS

I don't have a Noctilux but I regularly use a 1.25X magnifier when using my Canon 50/1.4.

The magnifiers help, definitely with my Canon 50/1.2 and my 75 Summilux.

I use a 1.35x magnifier with the noct and find it very useful, especially as my eyes have gotten older 🙁

I use a 1.25x sometimes (having two 0.72x VF M Leicas) and it definitively helps focusing the Noctilux at f/1.0.

I don't use it to help me with focusing, but it does help for that. I use it for lining up my mental/visual framing of the M8 framelines closer to what I am used to with my M6 (0.75 viewer) and M2. I do not use the magnifier on the M6 or M2.

I've used the 50/1 with or without a magnifier and found it's mainly helpful in poor lighting to assist in greater accuracy. The thing is, you're more likely to get a soft image due to too slow a shutter speed if handheld than focus error as an M body with at least 0.72x mag is accurate enough 95% of the time. Careful examination of my images that weren't tack sharp at f/1 revealed more blur from camera shake or subject movement than misfocus.

On my M6 with 0.72 finder and the 1.40X magnifier the 50 framelines requires scanning to see them.

I mostly use the 1.40 to help focus under dim lighting.

Thanks, so I guess the 50 framelines appear as the 28mm framelines normally would without magnifier? I wouldn't mind this, as I would only use it to help focus in low light.

That is exactly the effect. I use my 1.40 magnifier for use with a 75 Lux BTW.

I've tried both the 1.25 and 1.4 magnifiers on a 0.72 (mp) and 0.68 (m8) finder.

I found the 1.25 magnifier made it harder for me to see the contrast in the focus patch so I gave up on it.

When the 1.4 magnifier came out I tried this and found it to be a great improvement. The 50 lines basically fill up the view finder, and I have to scan around to see the exposure lights, but I find it much easier to focus my noctilux with this magnifier.
