noise reducton software

what is the general view on noise reduction software... some look like the 'median' filter in photoshop... any thoughts?

It's a handy item to have in the digital toolbox. I use Noise Ninja, which I find to work pretty well.

I use Neat Image. It's handy for some things. It's intended for digital noise, but it smooths out film grain quite well too.
