Code it as the Leica M 35mm f/1.4 Type 2 Pre-Asph.

Thanks, Shane. I appreciate the help.

I don't see a Type 2 Pre-Asph 35/1.4 on the list I have so any addtional assistance here would also be appreciated. Thanks.

The saga continues -
The saga continues -
The saga continues - neither the Nokton 35/1.4 nor the recommended equivilent for coding, the "35mm f/1.4 Type 2 Pre-Asph", are on the most recent list at the above suggested web site. I'm stumped.:bang: Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Easy to say, but what is the code??? I would also like to know.

I think you can code it as either 35/2 pre-asph or 35/1.4 asph, without much difference in output. See post #14 for the real 35/1.4 pre-asph:
http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/102643-how-code-pre-asph-35mm-summilux.html
FWIW, the 35/1.4 Nokton in design is most similar to the 35/2 Summicron pre-asph v1, also not present in the coding tables.
Roland.

According to what I've been reading on RFF especially from Tom Abrahamsson, the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.4 has the same lens designs as the Leica M 35mm f/1.4 Summilux Pre-Asph, but the Nokton has less flare and less coma aberrations.
But I guess that you could use Roland's suggestions

Wish I had M8/M9 to test ...
The 40/1.4 has similar design as 35/2 v4 and 35/1.4 pre-asph. 7 elements in 5 groups. The 35/1.4 Nokton has one additional thin element in front of the aperture. 8 elements in 6 groups. Looking very similar to the 35/2 v1. Like this (left the 40, right the 35):
For all practical purposes, it does behave like the 35/1.4 pre-asph without the flare (or "character").

Thank you for the coding suggestions and background discussion. I appreciate the input. The lens should arrive tomorrow. I'll post how the images look after the coding.

The saga continues. . . During preliminary testing of the new Nokton 35/1.4 I thought I saw the focus issue often discussed but when I tried the same shot with my Nokton 50.1.5 I found my M8's ragnefinder is out of adjustment. Oh well, off to Leica or Steve's it goes. Thanks for all the input regarding the coding.
