Nokton 40/1.4 examples

It's an Epson R-D1 photo page, the latest entries are from a single coated 40/1.4 Nokton lens. Guess they are out and about. Looks a bit flare-ish, is this due to the single coating?

The photo of the roses looks like it has less than pleasant bokeh... Cross-eyed 🙁 - more like a (bad) Nikkor than Leitz...
The others seem nice, though... Apart ftom that flare - but what would you expect shooting directly into the sun?

Interesting. I like the bokeh on the lens but I would like to know what the aperture was on the pics - the roses looks like 1.4 to me.

Great find, our first examples of images from the new CV lens. Those shots directly into the sun are worst case scenerio for a SC lens. I hope they post some shots from the MC version too.

Plexi -- I agree, the shots of the child in the flowers are fantastic. Great lens, of course, but used in a masterful way. The shots from the 40mm did not impress me. The shots of the fountain was nice, but that was at 2.8. The shots that were wide open did not seem that great. Then again, it was my understanding that this lens was optimized for black and white, so judging it for color shots seems not quite fair. Also, the flare tests were quite unreasonable. Almost any lens will flare if it is in that sort of situation.

off topic - but that 28/3.5 looks like a very nice lens judging from that one example.

The shot of the motorcycle demo'd the "Bokeh", looks like a Nikkor! But, I can make my (original) Skopar also shows over-correction for Spherical abberration, ie the platelets.

The Bokeh reminds me of this shot.

From the few test shots of the New CV SC 40mm, I am not very impressed by its optical performance. Makes me wonder whether I should spend my hard earned money on it. I am very impresssed with the Nokton 50mm test shots. Maybe I should get a Nokton 50mm instead. 😀

Peter, did you notice the crazy Leica-M to Voigtlander Prominent adapter on page 2?

Some of these pics were shot with the original Voigtlander Nokton 50/1.5 (as shown in that photo). Might be a trick to find that adapter if those shots are the ones you like. I had no idea such things existed.

Back to the topic at hand, can't say I feel any great desire to trade in my Rokkor 40/2 based on what I've seen so far. Neat site though, I've bookmarked it. thanks.

I agree David, looking at these examples I think I'll definitely wait a bit more for this 40/1.4. Yeah it would be a nice lens for the CL but after this, I think a Leitz/Rokkor 40 (or even the CV pancake I already have) are more reasonable options even if they are slower...

Can't agree more with all these statements. I wish I could read Japanese to see what the comments are. The 40mm results seem inconsistent to me, some of the shots look good, others don't.

All lens design have compromises. The questios are IMO where did this design make its compromises & what is it optimized for. You may want this lens AND your 40 Summicron/Rokkor (or a Rollei Sonnar in my case). One for low light &/or for selective focus & the other for more general shooting.

In the past, those who favor 50mm or 35mm focal lengths could have their Summicron & their Summilux. It's nice to see an increasing range of options for those who prefer the 40mm angle of view.
