nokton 40 1.4 SC - limited edition?

i saw this on the cameraquest site 40mm nokton page:

"Some Japanese photogs prefer the imagery of single coated lenses to multi-coated lenses, and so this limited edition version of 500 40/1.4 S.C. lenses. The first production run of the single coated 40/1.4 was a quick sell out in the Japanese home market. The 2nd production 40/1.4 SC lenses arrived 3/31/2005. "

so... is it limited edition or not? seems like a pretty popular lens, but no sign that stocks are running out.

I think it was initially a limited edition, and now it's a stock lens.

At CameraQuest the SC costs more than the MC, but at Robert White they are both the same price.

True and both are cheaper at Cameraquest based on current exchange rates, the MC version considerably so.

Actually the SC and MC are the same low price $349 at cameraquest. I just got a SC last week.

I am not sure this is the answer to your question.

But there was an early design and a later re-design.

This is a picture of the earlier version. Note the black screws:

The newer version looks like this:

No black screws. It seems Cosina responded to problems with stiff
focus reported with early versions. Limited edition or not, you do not
want to get the early design, IMO.

BTW, the top picture is from a pnet article

that nicely shows how to take the mount off, which you need
to do for relube, or modify to bring up 35mm framelines.
