Nokton 40/1.4 - similar lenses?

I have a 40/1.4, well I'm actually in the process of selling it as I can only afford to stick with one system.
I always considered myself a fifty guy, but I recently borrowed a friend's 35/2 AIS and fell in love with the focal length.
I wanted something a bit faster and was very close to buying the 35/1.4 AIS, but after looking round flickr, the bokeh is horrible.
I think the CV 40/1.4 has some of the nicest characteristics of any lens I've used, and I'm wondering if there are any fast 35mm lenses that have a similar look for Nikon?

I don't think so personally. I find the 1.4 noktons have a pretty unique character - mind you a lot of people don't like it... I happen to really like it, and as far as I've seen there isn't much out there with a similar one in the SLR world.

Maybe try a nikkor 50mm 1.4 but it's sort of a long shot.

IMHO the old Contax Distagon 1.4/35 was the topper of the fast 35 reflex lenses. If you need Nikon mount. The new ZF 2/35 is as close as you can get to the Contax lens. Super sharpness and Zeiss microcontrast/3D. The bokeh is also very pleasing BTW.

Several 40mm SLR lenses were made, but as far as I know all were made in fairly small quantities and are now overpriced collector's items. None were as fast as f1.4; The Olympus 40mm f2 for the OM system is the fastest SLR 40 that I know of. It is a little soft wide open but from 2.8 down is very sharp and has nicer bokeh than the CV 40/1.4 samples you showed. That grocery store scene hurts to look at.

Pentax made a 40mm f2.8 and Nikon made a 45mm f2.8. There were two versions of the Nikon. The GN-Nikkor from the 1960's and the Nikkor-P from the end of the film era. The P has the circuitry to make it work on AF bodies and digital bodies. The Nikon 45's and I think the Pentax too were Tessar type lenses.

The Konica 40/1.8 is very nice and available dirt cheap. Folks sell kits to put it into other mounts - I forget what mounts. I use mine on my old Konica TC.

This is the lens Im currently using on my Konica FS-1. Great lens! Think I paid something like $25 for it off ebay.

What about the CV 40 AIS?

Just thought I´d mention it. I have not tried it myself yet, but from what I hear, the rather new CV 40 SLII in AIS it´s a splendid and compact thing. (and; it´s chipped for full functionality with modern cameras and DSLRs) Not very expensive either.

I have and use the CV 40 AIS. This does draw somewhat like the CV 40mm M Mount. The contrast is a tad softer. A lovely lens.
