I thought yall would like that....

I have a Leitz closup attachment, AkA Nooky, that won't mount. As I screw it down, the black eyepiece section bumps the left rangefinder port (looking at the front of the cam) stopping it from making the last turn need to seat. Am I doing something wrong, or has this unit been dropped or something? It is very close to clearing the port, but hits by about a half a milimeter.

Thanks for any help.

That I know of there are at least 3 versions. One for the Elmar, one for the Summitar/Hektor, and one for the Summicron.

There is the Nooky, Nooky-Hesum, and I don't recall the later Summicron version

Which version do you have and what lens??

Are you sure that you have the correct part on the front of your RF port? I have seen some aftermarket parts that are too thick. Also of course, be sure it's screwed in all the way.

Cheers,
Dez

The rangefinder round window bezels may be reversed. The taller one goes nearest the rewind knob while the shorter one above the lens..

Thanks, I'll try looking at the bezels. It's an Elmar version, written on it's rim. The Elmar fits fine (any lens would fit fine, just the magnification of the closeup eyepiece chaanges, I'm guessing.

Try unscrewing the bezel and see if the Nooky will screw on all the way. Be careful though not to turn the press-in glass. This is the vertical alignment.. It is a beveled glass.

OK, I've tried it on a Leica IIIc, Nicca, and a Fed 1 to no avail. It hits the bezel on all cameras, so I'm thinking it's been knocked out of alignment somehow.

Not an uncommon problem, my Nooky is missing paint and scratched on the offending part. As others have said, either the rangefinder bezel or the black frame that holds the rangefinder glass on the Nooky may be a wee bit bent and needs bending forward.

Summicron version is called SOOKY if I remember correctly

I too thought that this was going to end up as a Viagra themed thread from the title, especially with several posters having trouble mounting the darn thing.

Now for a decent answer!
A NOOKY-HESUM is indeed a pain depending on the body type but here are three summaries for you:
III - no problem, see IIIb for info.
IIIb - should go on easy-peasy as the rangefinder window is set very slighty back as the top cover is in two parts.
IIIc - stepper type body, all in one cover. On the penultimate rotation, advance the NOOKY viewfinder forward and it 'should' clear the viewfinder ring. Then continue screwing it down. To remove it, do the reverse. If it doesn't work first time when you try to fit it, stop!
IIIf - same body as the IIIc but a bit tighter due to tolerances with the viewfinder window ring. Here, I can ease the NOOKY assembly past but only because of the nature of the L39 mount.
I've tried it on a Reid III mk2 but here it strikes the slow speed dial. I can't see why it won't fit a Reid II or III mk 1 if you happen to find one laying about.

I have a boxed NOOKY. My Topcon Simlar doesn't fit it so I am doomed to wander the web looking for a II/IIIabcdf with an Elmar I can afford: I feel like the "Flying Dutchman"

Reading this makes me glad I went for a SOOKY instead... it's much easier to get on, by the sounds of things. :p
