Ever since I've owned the Limited silver version of the 50/1.2 Hexanon-M, there's existed a tiny bit of play (approx. 0.1 mm) in the focusing ring action. This was always present but in warm weather a little less apparent. The play was only in the focusing ring and no effect on the inner lens barrel containing the actual optics. My curiosity finally got the best of me and I gave Konica Hexar RF repair expert Greg Weber a call on the matter. Much to my surprise, he mentioned this was normal even when new out of the box and was intentionally done by Konica to allow for proper function with expansion of cretain internal parts in hot weather. Furthermore, it is not something that can be adjusted out. At one time he had a few of these lenses with the same problem and when he spoke to Konica, that's the explanation they gave. Interestingly, he mentioned this lens was also produced in a black finish and was slightly less prone to the play than the silver version. One difference I've noted compared to other black Hexanon M's like the 50/2 or 28/2.8, is that their dampening of focus ring movement feels a little bit heavier compared to my 50/1.2. Given it's longer focus throw, I can understand why this may be so.
