went out with just the sony rx100 today and loved it!
no bag, no weight, no fuss and no viewfinder!
i kept lifting the tiny little thing up to my face to focus and frame and kept bumping my nose into the lcd...it may take me a while to get used to no finder...:bang:

otherwise the camera is a treat...wicked sharp lens, fast and accurate autofocus...i put it on aperture priorty and f4 (iirc) and hit the smooth shutter button with either my thumb or index finger.

I had the same problem with my LX-3, so I duct taped over my greasy nose, but died from suffocation shortly after that.

I like the colors (I guess there are lots of choices for "natural", "vivid" etc, but these look nicely natural). Esp the stoneware shot.
The exposure of the first shot is not bad for autopilot in a very difficult light, Even then the sunlit shirt and shaded shoe colors look good.

Is the B&W right out of the camera? Nice moment, pleasant diffused light.
 
I especially love the berries. I also love the first shot. The dad is at kid level providing security and the child looks like he is tentatively reaching for dad with fear or concern over what they are looking at, probably a clown. Or, maybe the child is concerned over the unreconcilable paradox that he is wearing safety orange sneakers with no laces.

Is the B&W shot and out of camera jpeg?
 
the only time my nose becomes semi greasy is if I apply a protective moisturizing face lotion , or if i work out.

i don't work out and take pictures at the same time so.

if it's becoming a problem i would suggest rubbing alcohol on your nose with a tissue and then use a clean tissue to clean it off

I believe his point was not the grease on the LCD (which is easily wiped away) but rather shooting with an LCD at arm's length instead of looking through an eye level viewfinder.
 
Joe, you can get third party manufactured hoods for the screen, but they are mainly to keep the glare down. The results are very nice, and like others before me, the berries/cherries shot is tops. I don't see any flaring of the hot spots in the stoneware shot, the b&w one is kind of Plus-X looking, and the bright daylight shot has no clipping in the highlights.

After the technical aspects, they are very good shots artistically. Especially the berries/cherries.

re. the b&w...regular colour output converted in pse8

re. nose grease...i'm italian, it never goes away!

re. the colour...slightly tweaked in pse8 with levels only...

a touch of unsharp mask applied at the end.
 
Don't dismiss nose grease. It has its uses in photography.

When I worked at Olympus we used it to fill tiny scratches on lens elements,
and also to clean and restore the shine to SLR camera coverings.

nice. i like the DOF and color in the berries shot and the detail and colors in the ceramics shot.

maybe i won't replace my GRDIV with another.....
 
Nose grease is also good for removing fungus from a lens. I didn't believe it till I tried it myself. And yes, Joe, being part Italian does help in that respect.

...to remove fungus from a lens, eh? whoda thunk?
