Not A Poll: What Camera Will You Buy In The Next 12 Months?

If half the people who say they are interested in the Fuji X100 actually get one then I will have to stand in line a long time! I have considered a Lumix GF1 with a pancake 20mm but a friend has one and I am not impressed with the noise at 400-800 ISO.
The Nikon D700 and a Mamiya 7II are my main shooters and they are hard to beat. I am looking for a more compact camera with high image quality and the X100 looks the closest to filling the bill. Besides it is so cool looking.
An eye level viewfinder is a must for me and that leaves out much of the competition.

My goal for next year would be a collapsible LTM cron 🙂 or a Canon 50 1.4 orrrr a Nikkor 5cm 2.0, love the 50 what can I say?

Do recent acquisitions count?

For the last 2 or 3 years I've been torn between getting my first interchangeable lens RF or dragging myself kicking and screaming into the 21st cent. and getting a DSLR. Finally fell in the DSLR camp only a month ago with a Pentax Kx. Realistically (and yet sacriligiously, here 😉 ), there's nothing a Canon P can do that my ME-Super can't, and my nice 50 f2 SMC (I know, it ain't the 1.7, but it ain't bad) makes an ideal portrait lens on the Kx. So far I'm enjoying it. But, GAS being GAS, one day I'll get a Canon P - in the next 12 months? Maybe, maybe a little longer.

I fear I will probably end up buying another Contax T2 sometime soon. I dropped my current one at a party last weekend and it hasn't really felt the same since...

Apart from that, tentatively looking out for a backup Rolleiflex, either a T or an 3.5E3. Oh, and a Nikon F5 - just for laughs. At the prices they seem to go for nowadays, it's hard not to say no.

This is what my rational side tells me:

- I won't buy a SLR because I have what I want (F100).
- I won't buy anything digital because I'm sure I wouldn't use it.
- I won't buy MF or LF because I don't do wet printing. But I'll keep the ones I have.
- I won't buy a Barnack. Rollei 35 sans battery is my Barnack and I love it.
- I won't buy more fixed lens rangefinders.
- I won't buy more FSU cameras... (but I'm not so sure about it).
- I won't buy more rangefinders because I have too many.

My emotional side tells me I won't be happy before I have a M6 TTL.

I'm considering the Panasonic GH2. The G1 is such a great photographers camera that the video and larger sensor of the GH2 would be a worthwhile upgrade. But there is only one I'd pre-order and buy on specification and ethos alone, and you've guessed it, the Fuji X100. The guy who designed that should get a medal.

That new Fuji looks awfully interesting and I'm ok with the effective focal length, although a 50 is my favorite all-round. Will have to see reviews and street price on it first though.

Other than that my D90 is starting to show signs of nearing the end of it's lifespan after almost 50k clicks and being dragged everywhere and slammed against more things than I dare think of. There's definitely something wrong with the mirror mechanism, but it's still usable. Pretty sure I'll get the new D7000 as soon as it gets available and keep the 90 as a backup/second body. The 100 % viewfinder, better AF and metering is tempting.

For sure: a DSRL for my wife who is costing too much with prints, probably Nikon D5000 or 7000.
Maybe, no camera for me, but that Zeiss 35 / 1,4 is very tempting (for my FM2 or F100)
M9 ? X1 ? x100 ? I say probably no, money already gone for the mentioned items 🙄

The Leica M9 titanium with the 35mm f/1.4 lens or Fuji X100 with the 35mm (equiv) f/2 lens depending on which one I can fiscally justify.

So either an F5 or a D2Hs for some birdy picchures.

Leaning toward the F5 because my definition of slide film is:


Slide film - like digital but no stupid ****ing, pain in the emmer effing a$$ digital post processing.

A Mamiya 6 kit for travel and/or a Contax G2 would be nice. But more realistically it'll be more paper for printing.

Maybe a Nikon Coolscan 9000 first... and then maybe exchange my larger format gear for 6x9 rangefinders like Mamiya Press and Fuji 690s. I have a Medalist II coming back from Ken Ruth and want to see how I like it before committing. I used to have Fuji 690s and I think they are fine cameras.

If paying work requires a proper digital I guess I'd get a D90-D300-D700-D7000 set-up depending on how much cash is left over. I'd favor the D700 at this point.

A IIc or black II w an Elmar would be a nice fun luxury but I hate scanning 35mm, at least w a LTM you don't shoot as much because loading and shooting fast is harder.

Like most folks here there are a number of camera's I'd like to buy. But I don't need to buy another camera at this point and would rather buy more lenses.

Canon 5d Mk II.

On the "like to buy Lens list (LTM or Mount)":
50mm Nikkor f1.4 LTM.
50mm Zeiss f1.5 Sonnar M mount.

On the "like to buy lens list (EOS mount)":

Unless I come across a super deal at a garage sale or thrift shop...none...I have plenty...and a few of them need to be aged...

Here's an update...

I was seeing a few potential problems with a Mamiya 645 body that I have and decided to look for a back up..I found one on ehay and bought it...now here's my thinking on this...I had some money in my paypal account (I sold something to someone) so I used this money plus another $16 out of my pocket to purchase this body...soooo in my head this was a deal I couldn't pass up...
Here's the kicker...I've been testing this newer body along with the older one and it's seems that the older one has stopped acting up...interesting...😉...:bang:
