Hi All, (general discussion - can move to a more logical forum if needed )
like most here, I have a bunches of gear, M3, M7, R-D1, etc....also Hassy V with film backs - (now looking to include a digital back)-
I know the old Phase One H5 (bb03) is a tethered operation only.
(now my question)
Anybody have experience (good / bad ) that can tell me if this is a good step into MF Digital, or is tethered too much Pain.

(found member selling on another site, an ok deal for used H5 back)
(assuming that if like it enough, use it and then later sell/move to a back thats untethered)
Thanks everyone - for your time !

I don't think I'd go out of my way to own one, but I don't have a Hasselblad. It works, it's sharp, but 6mpx. Keep in mind the sensor's really small compared the film size the camera's for. You'll need to have the phase one software with it, of course.

thanks Ranchu --

stepping up (i like the idea of that) but what's the current used market prices of a p20?

Oh hell if I know, been a long time since I looked around! I think they were 15 grand when they came out 4-5 years ago. Beautiful files though. Sharp pixels just keep zooming in and in. My jaw dropped. You might try renting some of this kind of gear if you can, before you decide what you want...

Good color too, best skintones I've seen from digital, come to think of it. Check out the 6 mpx Leaf back too, if the P20's too high. I liked the colors of it better than the H5.

When looking at these old backs, make sure you pay attention to what you need OS wise to shoot tethered. A year or two ago I was looking at one of these 6MP backs, and to work tethered to a Mac, it required Mac OS 9.

I downloaded a PDF of the user manual and will be double checking. Cover page has year 2002, (version bb01, bb02 or bb03 not referenced)
7-8 yr old digital equipment, my PC setup, should be ok.

Thanks for the warning. (and anyone else with any older Phase One pit falls i should be looking for, much appreciated)
(think i'll bite on this one)
