Not sure if my Electro 35 GS meter is working.

Hi, I recently got myself an Electro 35 GS, Very excited about this find! I put in a 6V battery and tried the shutter a few times to test the meter.

It seems to me that the shutter speeds are either 1/30 and faster (no yellow light), or something so slow it feels like "bulb" (yellow light)

I am yet to put a roll through it but I thought i'd ask beforehand.

Is this normal or is my meter broken?

It seems like it's very picky about what I point it at.

First, make sure the ring on the front of the lens is set to "A", then try firing the camera at different aperture settings. At wider apertures the shutter should work faster.

I have been using it on AUTO.

the shutter acts in a similar manner regardless of what aperture it's at, what varies is the threshold amount of light at which this behavior exhibits itself. Obviously at wider apertures, it happens when it's darker.

it just seems like it can't get any of the shutter speeds between 1/30 and 10 seconds

Sorry guys, seems like I have the famous "pad of death" I jammed a piece of paper in the "gap" and it gets proper shutter speeds!

Material originally used for POD is destined to be gone goo after all this years. Replacement of POD for Electro is inevitable as long as previous owners haven't done it. No way to escape it. Good for you if you are on track.

Although this is not a permanent fix, for now I stuck a piece of rolled up double-sided tape on an end of a thin piece of paper, carefully slid it under the metal tab, cut the paper once affixed.

Didn't feel like going further than taking off the top plate, just wanna shoot some photos!

On an aside,

The first set of batteries I tried in this was 4 stacked 1.4v 675 Zinc-Air batteries, I pressed the battery test button and they died almost instantly!! So I ran out to get a PX28 or whatever.

Did this happen because these batteries are not meant to handle the drain of running an incandescent bulb? or are they not meant to be stacked at all?

Right, Electro RF's can expose properly with modern batteries even if B.C. light can not be lit up. Mercury battery is what they had in mind making circuitry.
