I can feel the fog in that first shot . . . Nice pic but I think I prefer the Caribbean at least in winter

That far northern light is supposed to look like that I think, will it always seems that way to me, a sort of melancholy feel to it

Thanks for the comments! In a way, it was the perfect weather for the subject. Today is sunny with blue skies, and the lighthouse and cove would not look the same.
For the lighthouse shot, I waited for about 15 minutes (while my family was in the gift shop) to try to get a view with no people or with just the one figure looking at the ocean, but the site was too busy and new people just kept arriving.
These digi snaps will become 4x6's in an album, but the B+W shots that I also took may become enlarged prints for a wall. I decided last minute on an equipment change/simplification: kept the OM4 with 28 and 50, but chose the Hexar AF (35) instead of CL (with 40 and 21).

For this type of maritime motif, Newfoundland is the best. I was there about 20 years ago. Really neat place names too, like "Heart's Content" and "Tickle Me Cove".

You nailed the cliches, they look good. As nice as Nova Scotia is, it really is, I'd have to agree with Frank about Newfoundland.

Looks like a nice location, yet I dont think you made a good use of it - something is missing in your pics. maybe its the composition - getting closer, or lower for some shots would work better, I think/ Also, using a contrasty lenses like cv Skopars may have helped.

I know people think that we're all far north here, but in fact both Newfoundland and Nova Scotia are south of England

I was going to say that too. When I lived in England people were shocked when I told them that it was significantly further north in Brighton, UK than Halifax, NS! I couldn't believe how early it got dark.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, Frank! I like the last photo. I'm a sucker for a punch of colour on a foggy day.

That's as may be, but it still looks like some Hebridean island or somewhere in Sweden where Bergman holidays when he's feeling down, they have a austere beauty, of stone, water and mists, isolated scots pine, muted colours and utilitarian buildings that hint at man being only just tolerated by the environment.
