Does anyone knows details about this film - Nova Silverplus 125 packed in India? I have read on Photo.Net that Nova did have a Fomapan-like film called NP22.

This is the cheapest B&W film available in Delhi, costs equivalent of US$3 for a pack of 5.

Has anyone had experience with this film?

Regards.

Yes I have it. It is a excellent film but a bit flatish . Does not have much of a charachter like kodak or fuji. U may also try orwo 400 ft roll it comes for around 157 usd and will amoat make 60 36 exposure rolls so it will also be cheaper and it has a nice charahter to the film and is shap to.

it is interesting how prevalent film is in many developing places. many places i have been folks are still running studios with AE-1's and what not.

I think film is dissapearing faster in developing places.
I guess they produce film for military first place. India has some sattelites, these could need surveillance film.

Nova NP22 is a pretty good film. Quite contrasty, in my eyes (just from memory and inspection, not scientific testing) similar to something like Ilford FP4.
And no, it's not available outside India (unless it's just a rebranded film from a known manufacturer).
And of course it's dirt cheap over there.

Film in satellites? :)

Early 1960s spy satellites worked that way - they would hold a mile or two of film, shoot pictures until it was full, then dump the film into a return capsule that was caught in mid-air by a transport plane.

The Soviets instead used a system that dumped the whole camera module together with the film, which was heavier, but also more robust, and allowed for reuse of the camera.

I think you'll find these film are imported from Europe then packaged in India.
The NP22 is an ORWO film monika so I'm guessing they import bulk rolls from there.
Although I've heard from people at Ilford that India is one of their biggest markets, they ship Pan 100 & 400 (AKA Kentmere) for local packaging.

I could be wrong, but I've never heard of film coating plant in India.
