Mervyn,
The MM is my dream camera. Currently number 11 on a waiting list.

Jeff,
The new Macbook Pro's have the recommended Firewire 3 ports already. Not sure if I should upgrade to the 15 inch version which has higher speed or go with the 13 inch version for portability. Also know a NEC display is also in the picture.

Hi Cal,
take a look at LR4 or whatever software you will use for working on your files. You have two tool bars on both sides of the actual shot that eat away about 2 to 3 inches from the screen and you end up with a relatively tiny amount of workable real estate. I went for a 27" NEC and anything smaller is getting into the "tiny category".
13" might be nice for portability but for working on your Monochrome files it will be annoyingly small.

Klause,
Thanks for the advice. I was thinking the larger screen on the bigger Macbook would offer some advantage. Also know that Apple now offers 0% APR financing for 18 months of purchases over $1999.00. The extra speed is another reason to get the larger version.
Although I've been waiting, I have also been doing my research.

Cal, I work on 15" macbookpro, and it is ok, but a bigger screen is always better. You can also get the 13" (or 15") and use it with a big external screen at home. It may be harder though to get the color calibration right.....Oops, eh, I guess that is not an issue.

Cristian and Mervyn,
Eventually a NEC monitor is in the picture. Already I have some inspiring projects that will lead to making/creating limited edition art books. Still have to develope the film (120 Tri-X) but I have a connection to a Tattoo Parlor in East Harlem where I might be able to embed myself, not too far from where I live.
The idea is use books to do the editing and create a body of work to garner interest and for presentation. Printing big will have to happen later and is the next step.
I also am thinking of getting a Plustek scanner. A lot of possibilities exist also for creating a serious, but limited co-op. I know some others that would like to wet print large and even one person has a 4x5 enlarger. Meanwhile I have small format and 120 covered.
Anyways I know of 4-5 people already that would exploit a darkroom to print big from the meet-up. We all know each other rather well and for a long time. Let's talk some more at the December Meet-Up. I think I will bring some large prints to show.
