....... I'll tell you what I had watched for over a week and lost to another buyer.

It's a 9cm f/4 LTM Leitz lens. The very first Elmars couldn't be called "Elmar" for legal reasons. They also used a much larger (in diameter) focusing collar and came to be known as the "Fat Elmars". Rare? VERY rare!

This one went for $323 and even that is a bargain IMO. Too much for me and I had hoped that because the seller had not properly ID'd the lens that not too many would notice. The picture couldn't have been taken from a worse angle for telling what it really was.

Unfortunately, the bidder from overseas opened a bidding war that drove the price way up. It may have gone more reasonable otherwise as even the ultimate winner nibbled at it until he realized he'd have to go high or stay home.

Ah, well....... I still have my money. But I'd rather have the lens! :bang: :bang: :bang:

I saw it as well.

A "fat Elmar". I still like my little uncoated Black Elmar 9cm/4.

$43.

A very nice price indeed. Mine was an inheritance and while it's worn on the outside, the glass is immaculate. Here's a shot I took late Saturday on HP-5+ developed in straight D-76. Aperture was either f/4.5 or 6.3.

I really like the one I traded for late last year (Elmar for a Moskva. Both of us were happy) as well. I suppose I have to get a 90mm adapter and use it on the CL too :D

Great shot Walker!

Thank you, Peter. My father's Elmar dates to 1937 and he bought it sometime in the early 1950's. I'm continually surprised by how sharp it is in spite of it's age. He never saw the need to buy a coated one.

William, the CL and a 90 should be a wonderful combination. Add a 35mm Elmar and there's little you can't do with them.

I've been looking for a 35 Elmar, but they seem to be a bit pricier than J-12's for some reason... :D For now I'm planning a Jupiter-8 and 90 Elmar combo for it unless someone wants to trade even for the Jupiter 12?

I'll get the pennies someday, so no big deal.
