Here are some first impressions of the very minuscule Perar 28/4 on a NEX-5N.

Summary and conclusions
My first impressions of thee Perar 4/28 MC Super-Tpiplet with a Leica M-mount is an incredibly small and compact lens with great performance on a NEX-5N. For all practical purposes the sharpness is excellent and consistent through apertures with good corner sharpness as well. The handling of lens with manual focus is fairly good in particular given the small size. I miss a functional lens cap.
Please remember that this comparison is first impressions and look on resolution, and that bokeh, distortion, flare and ghost have not been tested. Yet.

In the photos comparing size with the compact Leica 28/2,8, I thought in the left one you had just shot the Leica with its lens cap in front of it. Turns out on closer inspection that it's actually the pancake seen from the side. Well, that's a super slim pancake indeed..

Oh, I just remembered.. there's actually a snap/pancake lens on the NEX roadmap for 2013. The burning question now becomes whether Sony will be able to match this one in size?

That's true...although compact size comes with its own set of compromises. For one, the lens is so small the controls can get in the way of using it...this comes from experience with the 35mm Perar on a NEX 5.

I used the perar on a M9 and thought it worked well. Perhaps something on the NEX-5 gets in the way of the focus lever... or is it just awkward because of using the LCD?

I used the Perar on an M also, I think it would work well with pre-set aperture and focus, but the ergonomics of locating the focus and aperture were not to my liking. I like to know were they are by feel instead of having to look at the camera to find them...

True, I had that issue with the aperture, but not focusing. I actually loved the way it focused.

Thanks for feedback. I find the focusing quite good, and have no problems nor do I find it ackward. Its smooth and I can focus by feel only or use the focus peaking.

The aperture control is a bit on the hard side, I have to put some pressure to change aperture. Its also a bit "fidly" due to size.

There are other pancakes for m43, but all these are in fact larger. For FF there is nothing like the Perar.

I am using the 28mm on a RD-1 & a NEX-3.
On the RD-1, it's just like a normal lens.
On the Nex, I basically preset the aperture before I compose. This is same technique used when I use my Jupiter-8.

what's the length from nex base to end of lens extension? From the photo, looks longer than the 16/2.8 native NEX lens.
