The Panasonic 12-35 2.8 weather resistant and looks like a good build may sway me to go zoom with the OMD.

I'm a bit curious Keith about your choice of cameras, recently there was a F6 then the RD-1 and now the OM_D.
Do they all fit into some neat little plan or does one replace the other?
The RD-1 seemed to be perfect with it's digital brain, film camera looks, cool dials and Leica glass.
You can just blame GAS if you want we all understand that

He severed the connection where they grew together, but the tongue just naturally sits in that location.

Kuzano, did he diagnose why your tongue was permanently attached to the interior wall of your cheek?![]()

@keith: as you have been a D700 user I would like to hear your thoughts on comparing both.
I actually use a d700 with a 50mm prime and was considering a trade towards your omd 25mm combo.
Any input will help.
Thanks

The best camera is one that still works!

You left out the OM-3 I got from Maitani!
Yes ... definitely some gas involved in these purchases,
As for the OMD ... what can I say? It's an Olympus and it's an OM ... and it's beautiful!
Tried the Panny out a bit today and I'm really impressed with the autofocus now ... absolutely amazing when I think back to how hit and miss the X100 was by comparison. Even in really bad light it's instant! I'm looking forward to giving the little Oly a whirl at the next gallery opening I photograph ... I'll be curious to see if it can cope with what the D700 does fairly easily. I'm curious to see what manual focusing will be like in the gallery environment!

As per my previous post I'll know better how good the Oly is once I've used it in the same environment as the Nikon. The Nikon is pretty damned amazing in gloomy screen lit galleries but I supect the OMD can do a very good job also. I think it may actually be easier to manual focus than the D700 in bad light. The EVF has impressed me more than I thought it would ... in fact when I put my eye to camera I'm not really thinking about the EVF at all any more ... it's just a viewfinder!

As long as your having fun mate you buy all the cameras you want.
I'm sure some of us here on rff get as much pleasure from hearing about your latest toys as you do when they finally arrive and you get to use them.

The 14-42 is underwhelming in build quality and unimpressive in appearance, but in my experience it yields surprisingly good results. That's what really counts, isn't it?
That being said, I do use the Panny 20mm f/1.7 on my E-P2 most often and will likely sell the 14-42 with the E-P2 once my E-M5 shows up this week...

Ok here they are! I probably should have sat it next an OM film body for a size comparison because it's significantly smaller and makes this lens look a lot bigger than it actually is. Somewhere in a previous thread though someone did this and it shouldn't be too hard to find. It is little but not to it's detriment IMO.
I think it's a stunning looking little camera and makes it's opposition, MFT or otherwise, look pretty ordinary. And it delivers performane wise!

Ok ... this is the first shot that has really pleased me from this camera and I have to say that Summilux was worth every cent ... thank you Sug!
This was at f1.4 and ISO 3200. The ORF file was converted to tif in 'Olympus Viewer 2' raw converter then very minor curves adjustment applied in ACDSee Pro 3. No sharpening or noise reduction applied!

That is one slick looking camera. Not had a chance to play with one yet but, I fear I might want it when I do....

Nice Keith. Was this exposed using A priority?

Yes and I let the metering decide totally .. no EV compensation at all!

Dang Keith. That's a great shot. I wish I still had that lens, but I know it's in capable hands now.

Where's the focus point. The light rays are quite sharp.

Great results, that 25 1.4 and OMD renders like a real Leica film shot IMO. If you have the time, would love to see how it will look in B&W though color is probably the best choice for this shot.

Black and white from the Oly looks stunning IMO and I'll probably upload a couple of conversions to the gallery later that I was messing around with earlier today.
I was blown away by the out of camera colour and I'm not really a colour person! It's quite saturated but not in the way the X100 was when I had it ... or my D700 for that matter.
Here's a version of that same pic converted to black and white and cropped slightly. The shadows are pretty deep and the highlights quite extreme but that's the way it looked in reality and considering it's shot at ISO 3200 with noise reduction and filtering turned off in the camera it's impressive IMO.

Keith I really like this shot. I still have my Panasonic GF1. I really felt Panasonic dropped the ball with their next gen GF camera series. Olympus on the other hand did much better in taking things to the next level.
Have fun with it.

It does look great but the vintage look of your color shot seems better for my eyes.
