This morning a friend of mine delivered this gift, brand new and still in the box. It was destined for a hospital's radiology department at one time, but they never needed it. It's been sitting in a warehouse, looking for a home. I got it for nothing.

Can you guess what it is? (a hint is in the title)

you are building a time machine to go back and buy some panatomic x film along with that 25 dollar Nicca camera.

you are replacing your toilet door with this??

LOL! No, I'm not that "regular". ;)

Yes, it's a revolving darkroom door. A steel one. Man, I never realized these things were so expensive. And HEAVY!  My wife is going to be on my case until I get this thing down in the basement. And if it doesn't happen before winter so she can get her car in the garage, I might be sleeping it it!

Once I got it out of the crate this afternoon, I tried to upright it myself. No way! Then I saw some writing on the side of the carton: Lined with 1/16" lead. Ugh! I'm going to see if I can remove this lining, as I don't see myself going into radiology anytime soon, not even as a side job.

I hope the "sleeping" part she implied isn't permanent, if you get my drift...

Well, you can put it to your wife this way: "Honey, the darkroom could double as a fallout shelter...yeah, the Cold War is supposed to be over, but we still have all these nukes hanging around..." ;)

Good luck getting that set up. Be careful handling that lead, though.

You have a brilliant future as a visually-impaired Bingo caller. Gotta have big ball for that.

I need that lead to seal my truck.;) Fort Bragg has a huge xray device for scanning large trucks. I ruined two rolls of film going through that darn thing. The guards say it will penetrate 14 inches of steel.

We have a (plastic) door like that at the darkroom where I work. It took a little getting used to, but it doesn't take up too much space once it's set up.

And with your lead-lined steel door.... I think you're only going to want to set that up once!!!
