Dear all;
I do a bit of studio work with D300/Contax G1/Fuji GA645, and now the G1 w/ CV 40.
I have not got around to labeling photos, but most of the BW are shot with only modeling lights, iso 1600 and 1/40 or so .... I shot raw + jpeg, but cannot find a raw converter that does as good a job as the in camera. Some of them were shot w/ strobes so those are a mix of nikon. The file names will give them away if you look. All color are Nikon.

Hi Dave,
Nice work. Some images appear on the soft side. Was this your intent?

I like number 6 and 21.
some images seem to have a strange outline (look at the leg in the 6) where does that come from? chromatic aberation?

Most of the softness seen is in the images that were taken only with the modeling lights. This is my first shoot with the lens, I had a feeling that the CV40 would be wickedly sharp when used w/ strobes ( F 5.6-8, 1/125 ISO 100 ), so, I was shooting only with modeling lights on some shots, F 1.4, ISO 1600, and 1/60 or 1/30 even 1/20, this softens the photo immensely. There is motion blur, DOF issues, and camera shake ..... not all images need to be razor sharp, IMHO, and that comes through.
This is the same reason that when you look at some of color images where I'm playing with DOF that much of the image will be OOF, that is done on purpose. I'm shooting an antique nikon 55mm F1.2 SC AI'd. Most of the DOF color images in the sun were shot af f1.2/ ISO 200, 1/8000 and of course manually focused on a very tight area like one swirl or hair or a nipple.
I'm trying to use the tools to move off of just snapshots.
For the moment, I cannot justfy an M8, so the G1 is the only way that I can get my CV lenses on digital.
The film is in the shop, an the 645 and 35mm should be up soon.

Tastefully done, and I like the quality of the lighting, which is more important than the camera, IMO. I especially like the shallow DOF B/W images. Thank you for sharing.

second comments about strange lines, I will have to take a look. In the big generality, I don't sharpen, too much, but I will look. I'm at work now, so I can't look right now.

Thanks for sharing, Dave.
Maybe the Nokton ist a bit soft at 1.4, maybe the noise reduction at ISO 1600 softens too much, too. But using the G1 this way is interesting and inspiring.

Do you happen to notice any banding in the G1 at 1600? This has been my sole complaint with 4/3 sensors in the past...

Photo number 6 was shot with a Nikon 80-200mm push pull lens w/ the stock hood + an OK hoya Skylight filter. It's almost shooting into the sun, and this lens is KNOWN for horrible purple fringing aka chromatic aberration. If I were to guess, that is at least part of what you are seeing, at the same time, this is where the sun was hitting, and I was trying to get a highlight on the calf .....
I have not seen any banding, but I am not shooting at the margins of the sensor, nor have I had any success with Silky pix on these raw files.
