M and I will be visiting our son in NYC for the second week of May. Any recommendations for photo exhibits-photo related events to see? I am looking forward to the Tim Hetherington gallery show. Beyond that we are open to film, paint, vocal...anything.

PS-Any tips for a a great locally brewed beer will be greatly appreciated.

Brooklyn Brewery. Be forewarned, the beer is good but it's not Deschutes Nitro drawn Obsidian Stout. I've had that precious nectar only once in my life. Drove up 17 hours from the LA area to visit friends in the Portland area and we went to the Deschutes brewery in Bend. Mmmm.
I used to live on Whidbey Island.
I digress.
There are great pubs around but if you want local beer, I'd say the Brooklyn Brewery is your ticket.
You might want to get this posted or cross-posted in the NYC RFF club forum as well. We like beer. And photography stuff. :D

EDIT: I completely got sidetracked by beer talk. As for galleries to check out, all I can offer right now is the Leica Gallery at 670 Broadway. Then there's always the MOMA, Metropolitan Museum, and a few other big ones.

I feel Brooklyn Brewery is completely overrated. There are plenty of great beer bars in NYC... go to them instead.

Cindy Sherman at MoMA. Can't miss that.

Go to the ICP. They almost always have something worth seeing.

I live in NYC and I don't do anything. I don't go to galleries, I avoid crowds of doofi when possible and I drink mostly whatever Weissbeer is cheapest at the store. Or White Horse.

I like it that way. I go to flea markets on weekends.

A lot of kids are embarrassed when their parents visit, but a lot of them are too polite to say so.

Whitney has the Biennial and the Guggenheim has Francesca Woodman. Then take a trip to the top of the MET and have a beer.
