I was sitting having lunch yesterday at Lincoln Center and I saw a young

On eBay they have camouflage skins for the d800, but nothing pink for the Df. Someone must make these.

Over the weekend I revisited my Public Storage. Funny thing is that I went there to condense the space and hunt for long lost items. I basically emptied the contents into the hallway and went through everthing.
Problem was that in the end somehow I could not fit everything I once had in the storage back in. How did that happen. Anyways I threw some stuff away, and broke both my arms trying to carry a large payload to the bus stop.
Anways I found more of that Italian goat leather to recover cameras.
I learned some smut on how public storage rentals fluxuate greatly. The worst time to begin renting is in the summer. It seems students store their stuff over the summer and available space allows high pricing via high demand. I was told the best time to lock in a low rate is in the fall when school begins.
I'm tring to make room for MJ (Monster Junior) the 7800. I either have to get rid of my Juki comercial sewing machine, or somehow find space to store it.

Most of us don't need a "pro" camera anyway. High quality, sure... but we are not going to Antarctica or to War.

My F3P was in Kuwat during Operation Desert Storm and was a real "Press" camera. Owned the camera for around 24 years.
I basically buy gear to keep and somehow I get attached. Some people are not so sentimental. Most people don't rig their cameras as weapons. LOL. I do just in case...
I'm thinking that the next crazy progression when I set up my 7800 with Piezography is to convert my 3880 into a color printer. Pretty soon Maggie will get Fios because as a blogger she now pays a lot for data. I'll be doing those online courses on Photoshop that is a small subscription fee.
I figure in a few years when I retire I'll rent a real commercial space to finally go art mode with a real studio and work space.

Cal, your buying habits are perfect for you since you like to keep everything. While I don't always take your advice, I have kept in mind the whole buy the best and you won't have to buy again philosophy we had discussed in the past.
To me, the Df is a pro camera. Sure, it doesn't have two card slots, it doesn't have the best AF (supposedly), and it's not a one hand camera... but it is refined, feels nice, and is not clunky in the least. I think the D800e will be going and another Df will be incoming. I just can't get into the traditional DSLR shape at all. I had to try again though.

Cal, one of these days I should give you the follow up tutorial regarding color and raw files in Lightroom. I can show you a few photoshop tricks also, and then there is the DNG profile editor.

The one thing I notice about the pro camera's is the Nikon or
Canon put their best into those camera's, look at my old EOS1DS
it's a tank, it's autofocus flies and the viewfinder is 100%. etc. etc.

John's DF has the Nikon D4's sensor which to me is a big-big deal.
I can totally understand good ergonomics for John's use and what works for him.
To me the point of shooting a SLR is accurate framing, and for the most part one needs a Pro level camera for that feature. I once bought a FM2 for the ergonomics, but I hated not seeing the full frame in the VF'er.
Wish my SL2-MOT and R8 had full frame VF'ers.
Anyways I always go for durability for the long term. Soon I will retire, and what I own has to last the rest of my life. The D3X shutter is rated for 300K actuations. and I bought mine with under 5K actuations.

Hey, let's remember that the Df's VF is 100% ... it gets shat upon, but it is quality all the way.

The 7800 I got is basically a fresh printer that only made 1802 prints over a 9 year period before I got it. Somehow the printer was used just enough not to have any clogging from unuse. The paper handling (vacuum platen) is vastly superior than my 3880.
Currently I performed an initial fill with Piezoflush to further cleanse the internal lines and the dampers of any residual ink. My intentions are to buy 700ml bottles of ink to bulk up. The new refillable carts are easily more than a third larger than the 220ml OEM carts. Perhaps they can hold 350 ml. At $201.00 per 700 ml it comes down to about 29 cents a ml which is good, but the tonality I print means I put a lot of ink on paper.
A 50 foot roll of Jone Cone type 5 costs $220.00 and that makes only 16 24x36 inch prints. The scale of printing big is costly. I need a few thousand dollars to bulk up on supplies. Now printing gets really serious. I know now why few people do what I am going to do.
A few years from now I'll have to have commercial space. Getting this 7800 is very crazy, but it makes me happy. Basically in retirement I'll be going back into art school mode.

This was another reason why I like the DF. The FM-2 for me was lame.
The two strongest points for me are the D4 sensor and the good VF'er. Does not seem lame to me.
