You guys have fun! After working for Getty for a number of years, fashion week was not one of my favorite times. Late nights, overworked, lots of photographers who thought they were celebrities themselves.

Cal I would go with Portra 400 if I were you. Velvia 50 is so slow that you would loose any/all ambient light and be completely dependent on flash. I guess if thats the look you want then it's ok but still give portra a try. It's got a very wide DR and you might get more interesting shots.

I would say the same thing. You better pray that your flash gets the exposure exactly right. As you are likely dealing with variable subject distances, anything in the foreground or background is going to be burnt out or black. Portra will give you a lot more leeway.

Last year I got skunked and its OK if I get skunked again this year. I'm definitely not a working pro, and as you know I often perform dumb things. Please feel free to make fun of me.

Also know that earlier this year I bought 4 rolls of expired 120 100 Ektar and 4 rolls of expired 220 50 Velvia for $20.00.

Anyways I expect very strange results because I only shot with flash once before. It was with a Vivitar 283 on my Nikon F3P. Basically my girlfriend "vol-land-teared" me as a wedding photographer for what I call a rapid wedding, (pregnant bride). Also know I also did the wedding video. Surprisingly this first attempt at utilizing flash with guide numbers came out great. Sometime I just get lucky.

The TTL metering on the Pentax 67II with the AE prism is really great. I used the 6 segment matrix metering at the Mermaid Parade and it was spot on. With a flip of a switch I can go center weighted or even spot.

I'm aware that even at F2.8 at 100 ISO I'll only have a range of around 9 feet, but I'll have even less at 50 ISO. The 75/2.8 AL lens is a 38mm equiv and close focused it has pretty bokeh.

I expect interesting resuilts that either will be really-really good or really-really bad. Anyways it will be a good night even if I get one interesting shot. The colors from Velvia 50 are wonderful.

Ok, so I wasn't going to bother because events and crowds aren't my thing. But then I realized there were some events going on in my hood. I packed up the 4x5 with the little 90mm f6.8 angulon which i just made a cam for and some fuji instant b+w 3200 and headed down. I got a couple of ok shots, and gave some of them away. I even ended up taking a few agfa pans and some video. I got lots of "is that an antique camera?" And one "can you still get the...stuff you need to make that work?"

I didn't even finish the second roll of 220. Blew a few shots (flash did not go off, operator error). Some photographer was more interested in me and my camera in front of a display window, and the live model behind the glass took exception to me crowding her stage.

I was resting and just hanging out when a group of 4 models approached me. I became surprised because I knew one of them. It was our waitress from Puck Fair (Nellie). Next thing you know is I have 4 models to exploit. The funny thing is that at the time I was talking on my cell phone with my girlfriend when Nellie approached me to say hello. "I have a shooting opportunity. I got to go," I said.

Anyways it was major cool hanging out and talking with Nellies friends for a few minutes.

Anyways used the premise of asking to take a picture of some woman's shoes when it was her long set of legs I was really interested in.

As for shooting with slow film with flash this gug with a feathered Mrty Gra half mask might be cool, but I took the shot mighty close and tight (1 meter).

Quite a few events that were interesting and open w/o invitation. I couldn't believe how long people were cuing in line just to have their picture taken with some celebs, many of whom I didn't recognize e.g. Miss America 2012 ... Pics to follow, again thanks a lot, it was a great experience.

Its always a fun and rather crazy night. Last year I got skunked, but John (JSrockit) got some remarkable shots going high ISO digital. Hopefully I got some this year.

Technically I blew/missed some due to technical difficulty. Once or twice I didn't allow my flash to fully cycle, and I think more than once my flash simply didn't fire. Also once I think I confused the TTL metering very badly and it seemed the camera was jammed in bulb.

I almost finished two rolls of 220. Hopefully I'll have the slides processed by the next Meet-Up so you guys can make fun of me. LOL.

Last year I got skunked, this year you got skunked. Every once in a while we miss a shot, but we keep at it.

Yesterday I missed quite a few, mostly operator error due to shooting with too many different cameras, compounded by flash. Oh-well.

Bummer John. I'll see if I can fire up my scanner today. I'm sure there was a lot more going on downtown than on Madison ave. I didn't come away with anything spectacular. I probably should have gone and shot only video, because some of that turned out well.

Cal, although I limited the number of cameras to 2, I brought 4 film backs which didn't simplify things. I was just happy to learn that I could hand hold a 4x5 at night and still over expose some shots with the aid of fast film.
