Besides a few images with a 21mm and 90mm(some of the bridge images), almost all of these NYC images are with a 35/f2 ASPH on my M8. Fun just walking around, no shooting sessions to do this time around. LHSA Webmaster Carl Merkin gave me a tour of the Brooklyn Bridge, something I had never done before.

Got to love the one camera one lens concept!
Got to love the one camera one lens concept!
First let me say your photos are wonderful! I love the Brooklyn Bridge pics , especially the limited depth of feild shots of the bridge. I once lived in Brooklyn when attending Pratt Institute for my MFA and I used to run across that bridge all the time. That was in 1991. I remember the awesome site of looking down and seeing a ship pass under me and then tilting my head way up and looking at the twin towers. What a sight! Yes, I Love the one lens camera concept. As a matter of fact, I will only have one lens this weekend when I go to the Photo Expo Plus (I want to see the Pentax 645d and the Fuji X100). 35mm is awesome on the M8. Even more so with my 35mm Nokton f1.2 Which will be the lens I am taking as my all around. I have the V4. Summicron and my Nokton is now used way more. You should try it. F1.2 is really wonderful, and some of your photography shows me the Nokton would be good for you. I have a full range of focal lengths, but I am convinced more gets done with a single lens and camera.
Many of the greats in photo history only used one lens, and 35mm was quite common. It really liberates you to thinking more about photos than equipment. We all get the gear bug, but hey, the photos are what really counts, and a single lens camera combo cannot be beat for great street photography. That Fuji will sell like crazy next year!

Hey thanks for the comments.
I have the 35/1.2 but it's not focusing right on the M8. Sharp at 1.2 on film, not sharp at 1.2 on digital.

Your 35mm Nokton needs to be adjusted
Your 35mm Nokton needs to be adjusted
My 35mm Nokton I bought from Stephen Gandy's Cameraquest. Mine was tack sharp on my M8 from the beginning. The only issue i had was with my aperture blades not closing once. Stephen Gandy took care of it quickly. Now it is perfect. Send yours out to Stephen and have it checked out. This is a great lens and it would be too bad if you cannot use it. I know they are not Leica in build quality, but they are of very high quality, on par with Canon and Nikon Pro lenses.

It works fine on film so I'd hate to have it messed with.

As often as I have seen photos of that fantastic bridge, I never tire of it. Your shots are excellent. The overall view of the city is impressive (I grew up and worked there in the 40s-60s). Nice work indeed.

Chris,
Thanks for sharing. I'm not usually a megalopolis type person. Your photos could change my mind.
There are times when I yearn for the Nokton 35/1.2. Then I look at my tiny 35mm UC-Hexanon and the yearning passes. For awhile. I may have to thin my hodge podge assortment of lenses and get the Nokton.
Cheers!
