NYT Article: Photography as a weapon

Photography as a weapon? Sure, just listen to an interview with Eddie Adams.

Propoganda is a weapon and photography can be a part of propoganda.

Absolutely.

But photography has not been only a political weapon to lie, but also a wapon to unveil uncomfortable truth.

And both ways didn't started with photoshop, as you may recall the famous picture of Lenin giving a public speech, one with Trotzky besides and the other without Trotzky.

Furthermore, certain cameras have been purposedly designed as devices of the Army technologies and continue to be.

I am a bit fainted by the fact that article after article being published about photography and then brought to RFF, is quite empty of new ideas.

By outstanding contrast, many many threads at RFF could be the basis for real contents articles in the NYT or any other respectable paper directed to the millions.

This, because of two reasons. First we are not the types of photography intelectually bored folks, who otherwise must victymize the public with such empty contents articles, no matter the form - but enthusiasts of photography.

The secon reason is that we enjoy of a terrific weapon: discussion, or if you like: team thinking. Team thinking is far from the Hollywood portrait of the advertizing agency stuff meeting. Team thinking is very much the contraposition of opposed views.

But, of course, there is no obligation when contraposing views to fight each other. On the contrary, the further we maintain a positive tone within a thread, the further we will be helping the clarirfication of the issue.

Cheers,
Ruben

Photography.. a weapon? Not in my book. Yes it can and is used to distort the truth; is used to manipulate "the masses" etc. but no more so than the written or spoken word.

Now a camera, that can be a weapon. ;)
