Nice pics but not sure what these 40 year old pics are supposed to convey about the life of people living in Chinatown today. Time for an update.

The last sentence in the article gives one a clue of why they posted the nice 40 year old pics. The New York Times has a full time job grinding axes these days, in the era of MAGA and all that.

MAGA, at least to me -I'm not an American, is a mysterious project. As far as I am concerned, the USA is a great country in many ways, and a bad one in many others. This said, I wonder how outsiders, like Glick could capture the intimate world of 'Chinatown' better or differently, than insiders would.

These images are a historical slice, a record of waves of Asian immigrants that came to America and settled in Chinatowns and the like all over this country. Places like Chinatown are a doorway into America for these immigrants. An entry into unfamiliar culture by way of surrounding yourself with things that are culturally familiar. I'm shocked that you can't see how these images reflect on the current values of the administration in charge. MAGA? Instead of wondering better or differently, look at what Glick stepped into, a world seldom seen by outsiders. Considering his cultural difference, Glick did a commendable job.
Chinatown here in New York is one of the last places on Manhattan island that still feel somewhat the way it did decades ago. Its population is aging. Gentrification is taking hold everywhere in New York. Chinatown today unfortunately is not immune.
