Nice control of highlights.... are those all ISO400? I know they optimized the IQ specifically for that ISO level

yup. All at iso400 and wide open.

Some very nice shots. When you say it was tough, what exactly do you mean? Like I said before. I have considered this camera for years but always seem to shy away because of talk about shutter lag.

I have always shot such events with a dslr where i have a wide array of lenses from 16mm to 200mm at my disposal so it was really tough to limit myself to a 35-105 lens. The compromise was that i got great DOF without having to stop down. Shutterlag was never an issue as one just needed to read the moment and press the shutter a moment before u really want to. I used AF all the way. No prefocusing at all.

I have the same model. I tend to use it wide open at either 35mm or 105mm, iso 400 and set in b/w mode. The files are sweet. Shutter lag never really a problem. Nice to see a mention of the Oly 5050 here on RFF

i hope we don't get too used to seeing digital non rf camera talk here.
not to be a grumpy old fart but this trend disturbs me.
topics lately stray way off the rf path.
i have a great digital point and shoot panasonic and post pics from it on flickr so i am not anti digital.
but i am anti non rf here at rff.

Does this go for film TLRs too?
Sorry for the sarcasm, but if you are all sick of the non RF camera threads... then clean it across the board

don't put words in my mouth pete, i said i was concerned.
as to the tlr section that was stephen answering the call of those asking for it.
i have already let stephen know how i feel about it but he's the boss, not me.
but let's be clear here...i am a member and a volunteer moderator. i never yeilded my rights or responsibilities as a member and i have a right to speak my mind the same as anyone here.
i came here, i stayed here and i accepted the position of mod because i am a confirmed rf user. if rff strays too far off that point then i will have some decisions to make, plain and simple.
i added my 2 cents not to make anyone feel badly, it was on my mind and i think most know me in that i speak my mind.

hi guys, i just wanted to say that i started these 5050 threads here because i thought there might be some interest in how the camera would perform when used as a digital RF replacement for those of us who can't afford a RD1. It has received many accolades from both pros and other online users and i thought i'd share my experience with others. It was never my intention to open a can of worms.
Joe, i really value your input on the subject and i'll ensure that this is the last as you do have a fair point about it being OT here.

Michiel said:Maybe off topic digital threads can be posted OT in the DSLR forum. It's mostly the same community there anyway.
It'd still be OT, but just less so.
I think that is a great point. We do have a sister site at which the conversation is much more closely related to this type of converstion. Beyond the relevance issue, I suspect that more post such as this will help increase the traffic at the DSLR Exchange and lead to a more specific response.
And Joe explained the reason for the TLR forum. From very early here at RFF there has been an overlap and interest in TLRs. For those who posted at the Pop Photo Forums a few years ago you will recall the coexistence and friendly rivalry of the In Praise of threads, Francisco's Canonet and the alter ego TLR discussion.
Yes, RFs and TLRs are like apples and oranges, but I would liken SLR talk and P&S Digi talk to nuts and bolts. RFF isn't a hardware store, we have not been and we can't be everything for everyone. Just being something specific that we all have in common has been pretty good to date.

Joe, you started at least 8 threads by my count about your OM system.
An OM system may be an honorary RF, but an RF it is not.
So a fellow member szekiat should be able to start 2 threads about one of the unique recent products out there that *exhibit* the characteristics of an RF. Yes?
Besides, look at what happened to my ECR thread, dead as a ghost town... (... tumbleweed rolling...)
That's a true honest-to-goodness RF thread.
szekiat: I wasn't kidding, you take good pictures.

and if you find my last thread on the om, i stated i would be posting om related threads in dslr from then on.
i attacked no one - i stated a concern.
