The Occupy movement has spread to Asia, these are some of my shots from Occupy Central. 'Central' is the central business district in Hong Kong, similar to Wall Street in New York. The movement has camped out at HSBC headquarters,

Fascinating - and great pics. Had no idea it spread to Asia but it's not surprising. The "have nots" have had it, worldwide. How is the movement in Asia different/similar to the US?

Hong Kong, despite it's signs of affluence, has one of the highest levels of income inequality in the developed world.
The monthly median household income of the poorest 10%: HKD 3,000 (USD 386)
The monthly median household income of the richest 10%: HKD 80,900 (USD 10,400)
(Source: Oxfam, 2010)

USD 386 a month works out to USD 13 a day. For a family of four, thats USD 3.25 per person, per day. That's frankly impossible to live on in a city like Hong Kong.

I haven't experienced the movement in the USA first hand, just the reports I see on the news (which are usually heavily biased) and from friends and family there.

I think the movement in Asia is not as well organised. There have been scattered "movements" across the region over the past 2 weeks or so, but Hong Kong appears to be the only one which has survived and continued. We'll have to see how long it lasts.
