Odd ebay request

Hello all. I'm not too sure this should go here, but I can't think of anywhere better.

Anyway, I've just received a request from an ebay seller, who has asked me if they refund my paypal payment would I then pay by bank transfer because Paypal has for some reason locked the seller's Paypal account and the money in it.

I've asked the seller how they would be able to refund my Paypal payment if their Paypal account is locked.

What do you lot think? Is there any risk to this? Is it dodgy?

I've no idea how to do a bank transfer so I'll have to look into it first, so it'll take a day or 2 before I do it, if I do it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You have paid. The fact that Paypal has locked the account is their problem, not yours. If I were you I would ask them to refund... and then leave it alone and look for the item elsewhere.

yes, it sounds extremely dodgy, do not pay via bank transfer as eBay payment protection isn't as good as PayPal payment protection.

You are protected by PayPal. Call them and ask. They have real people you could talk to and it wasn't outsourced call center people last time I called them.

Get your money refunded or call paypal and let them handle it. whatever you do, don't use bank transfer/western union etc.

Don't use a bank transfer. That gives them access to your bank account number and routing number. They can just "help themselves" to the entirety of your bank account.

If they won't refund you, paypal will give you the money back and dig it out of them. That's why you use paypal.

seller paypal being lock is a big red flag! If some one call you saying "Hi can you pay me cash in envelop please because my bank is freezing my account", that would sound immediately dangerous right?

Do not send additional payments to this seller.

The account being "locked" can mean a number of things, including delay of funds to the seller for two weeks or more, depending on their past selling record. This delay is routine for new sellers and those with current or past problems.

Make sure any communication with the seller is through the eBay website so that it is available to the eBay staff for any assistance in this case.

Most likely seller is new, yeah probably its delayed fund release. Probably seller wanted the funds quickly and failed to realize that paypal hold funds for new/infrequent sellers.

Like stated before, do not refund you payment. Paypal system is on the buyer side, so stay there.

Tell them to ship, you've already paid. Paypal will release funds to the seller once they see it's been delivered (assuming the seller is smart enough to use a ship method with tracking.)

B2 and Bob have it right... Just say "NO" and then forward the request to ebay. I would also make a request of ebay that they cancel the transaction.

Hmmm, so they have the money on PayPal and then they get it again in their bank and you still have no goods, hmmm...

Tell them to sort it out with PayPal and then ask PayPal yourself what is happening. OTOH, it could all be completely innocent...

No way. No. Never.
You paid them, they have the money, it's up to them to figure it out with Paypal. As posted above, doing this would leave you with ZERO protection.
