Odd ebay request

Those who have sold on eBay will recall that for their initial sales, they did not find the funds deposited in their PayPal account for several weeks. After several successful sales, this "trial period" was eliminated and funds were received at the time of payment.

Slightly off topic, but... I am the member since 2003 and have more than 100 positive feedbacks (zero negative/neutral) - Paypal would still not release my funds for about a month (it shows on the balance as "withheld")... Maybe because my sales are not regular or maybe some other reason. Anyway - that is my problem. If i want to sell on ebay - I have to swallow it... like Paypal fees which are different every time (yes, my standard rate is 3.5%, but then I see 4.5%, 5.2% etc - and it says somewhere that some "extra" may apply for cross border/cross currency transactions, please look into the agreement terms etc... But I never found where it is described). Anyway - Paypal sucks, but it is a good protection if you a buyer.

You can call eBay and speak to one of the staff about the delay in release of your funds. They will explain the reason for the delay and may remove it: You have a good case for removing the delay if many of your feedbacks are seller feedbacks (you as the seller). I'd also suggest calling PayPal for an explanation of the fees above 3.5%.
Knowing the reason for the PayPal fees is also important.
Its worth the calls to know the reasons straight from the staff.

Contact Paypal.
You paid, now get the item or get your money back in full.

The seller refunded the money and asked me to send the payment via paypal to their email address. I presume this means the payment actualy goes to their paypal account and that it was Ebay that was 'stalling'.

I did this, as I didn't lose any money by doing so.

Thank you to everyone for the words of caution. I wouldn't have sent any extra money and I wasn't sure about a bank transfer, but it seems to ahve worked out in the end.

Just a word of advise. If you send the money directly to paypal, you are doing a business outside the ebay environment. What this mean is that the seller is skipping some ebay fee and you are effectively having one less layer of protection (the funds hold is there so you can get your money back fast. If the seller empty his credit card/bank account, you will have to wait longer to get your money back). I would avoid any further dealings with that seller. Hope everything turns out ok

I am not an active seller, I sell maybe an item every second month, so probably my seller history is not "long enough", but I don't worry about waiting a few weeks, so I won't waist my time investigating their position.

As to Paypal fees, I found it, it explains why it differs, but it still sucks. I don't know who would be the buyer and the fee is depended from which country the money is sent (so when I price my item I take the max to be on the safe side when I calculate my net):

Regarding percentages; the last time I looked they charged a percentage and then a small sum regardless. The small sum was 20 pence from memory.

Don't take it badly chubberino, I've not lost any money and the seller ain't got my bank details and I've got a working item, so the situation is as it was before the 'refund and pay again' request.

Just because I didn't completely follow all advice doesn't mean you shouldn't have offered the advice in the first place. In my judgment, after the change in the request to 'pay again', (using the original money), from a bank transfer to using paypal, there wasn't as much of a risk as everyone said a bank transfer would be.

I certainly wouldn't have sent a second payment, by any method.

I had just been wondering about 'Bank Transfers' and any risks. In the end I didn't pay by bank transfer so I didn't actually need to decide whether to 're-pay' that way or not, as the seller changed the request to re-payment via paypal.

So, as things worked out, I didn't actually ignore the advice after all.
