Odd Looks

Heh, My Leica M3 gets a lot of positive comments, a few from people who have commented that they 'used to have one of those'. The strangest looks are reserved for my Fuji GW 690II, which to the uninitiated "cannot be a serious camera... I mean where are your enormous shoes, big red nose and flower that squirts water?????"

Its all good 😀

But, I'll be honest with you guys that when I meet a guy with a TLR I simply can't help but laugh at him. it sounds rude but I'm being honest.

i can create a stir of considerate curiosity with my '' brick '' a Leica DIgilux 3 - simply 'cos it's chrome , and unlike a modern DSLR . Most are fascinated that such a camera could be awy with the pixels [ not to mention the snapshooter ! ]

... the M 8 attracts a similar response , I was a lot shy about this ,ASdee make it dee'ficult to read / connect to people - now I appreciate it .

It's kinda strange that both cameras are of this century ... but not ...

OH , my Leica pretenders ex-Zorki 1 / Fed 1 attract a lot of fascination too !

One day I would like to take my Crown Graphic into town and take a few shots ... now that would prompt some queries I would suspect! 😛

Why?

A few years ago I was using my Yashica MAT-124 while waiting for a bus downtown. An older gentleman was walking past and stopped and stared. He came over because, "He hadn't seen a real camera like that in years." He had been a newspaper photographer in the days when the Speed Graphic was king. We talked so long I missed my bus, and the next one.

Using an old press camera like the Speed Graphic is a good way to attract some attention as well. I've had people ask me if it was a new digital!

Heck I get that look with an F3hp, and got it with my Fm3a. Really funny looks from my Argus C3 🙂

I went to the stationary store and bought a pack of those sticky colored dots. I put a red on on the front of my Argus C4 and I just tell those tourists it's a Leica. Haven't run into anyone yet who knows the difference. Then, I show them the pictures and they are absolutely convinced it's a Leica.😎

One day you'll run into some zealot from the Leica Forum ... I can see the headline now.

"Photographer assaulted with own camera!" 😛

The longest hardest stare was for my Fuji GS645S in Honolulu a few years back. I think the gent was fascinated by the "cow catcher" lens guard but he didn't approach me and regrettably I didn't invite a closer look. Might have been a good conversation.

I did get a comment recently at a Chamber of Commerce reception from a guy who recognized my M8 as a Leica but not as a digital.

I was using my M4 once and an american tourist called out to me "I didn't know they even made those any more". An interesting comment I thought, because of the assumption that it must be new.

last time I was taking a photo in a café (http://photophoto.bloxode.com, second picture first page) with my trusty Rollei T, and a gentleman who sat at the next table asked me whether it was a 3.5. I said yes, and to my great surprise I answered "I've got a 2.8" "Lucky you!" "And also this" and there... he took out of his back a MP with a 28 Elmarit! At first I thought it was a back M2 because of the brassing, but afterwhile I saw it was modern with no engraving and all. We swapped our cameras for a moment, both took a picture of the other and I gave him my website's adress. So cool!
Each time I come out with a Rolleiflex they're at least 2 people staring at me, and very often asking me questions on the whatabout of the camera 🙂
