I'm considering a M8 and was wondering what are my options for odd size filters. A36 for instance. I have a 50 elmar and 35 summaron ( no threads ), as well as two LTM nikkors that are 34.5mm. I have an adapter that takes Summitar filters, but I'm not sure that will help.

What if any, are solutions to these oddball filter sizes? My other lenses are 39, 40.5 and 43, so I know those are out there.

I have a 34mm to 37mm step-up ring for the Summar, and just added a 37 to 40.5mm step-up. Check Ebay. Step-up rings of almost any type available. From 37, you can step up to 40.5 easily.

OK Brian, I was searching 34.5mm I see lots of 34>37mm step up rings. Hmmm... I suppose I could buy 43mm filters and step up to 43mm from all the rest.

What about the threadless 50 elmar and 35 summaron?

I'll have to look- I'm thinking some of the old Type A filters could be modified.

My Post-War (1946) Elmar uses 19mm threaded filters. I'll check the early Nickel Elmar.

Check the size of the glass in an A36 and see if you can buy a glass alone, or transplant one from another filter size.

Doesn't the Elmar have a 19mm thread around the glass? Most (maybe all) do. I used to have some filters and close-up lenses in this size. At least I think it was 19mm. Tiny, anyway. EDIT: I see Brian's already mentioned this. My Elmar is 1936.

Cheers,

R.
