Canada, eh.
I'd like to keep this going by sponsoring the second round of the J.N. "Oh, Canda" photo contest/gallery.

Same grand prize including the adoration and respect of your peers.

The topic is summertime fun.

Photo must be taken with a RF camera, in Canada, during July or Aug.

Submission deadline is Aug.25, a stand-out photo in my humble opinion will be announced by Aug.30.

i can do that.

but i need to say a few words first... the tim horton's cup of coffee 'prize' was an offshoot of the original thread calling for pics showing off your part of canada.
jorge & i let it go cause there was no 'judging' by other forum members at all.
it was jan's cup of coffee to 'award' and he made the decision on his own.

if some of you recall, there was a short lived 'contest' in the rd-1 section that jorge & i decided was not in the best interests of the forum and our uniquely friendly atmosphere.
nothing wrong with contests per se but why tempt fate was my thinking. we got a great thing going here at rff.

so as to this 'contest'...it seems there is an interest in this sort of thing...so here are my thoughts/guidelines.

* let's see how it goes
* 'prizes' can only be of very low actual value, i like the cup of coffee idea
* NO JUDGING - NO VOTING - NO WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS PHOTO THREADS
* in this case, it's all up to frank

is that acceptable to all?

i may be a 'worrying wanda' here but, honestly, this kind of stuff scares me.

Sounds good, let's keep it non-competitive. After all, the topic is "summertime fun".

I'm fine with your guidelines, Joe. I think we all understand that RFF isn't about competition, it's about community.

If necessary, we could reword the original post, to be less competitive (not trying to hijack, Frank):

Let's show the world some summertime fun in Canada! All pictures to be taken with an RF, in Canada, within the months of July and August, 2005. Frank will be awarding an optional "prix du photo" for any particular image he feels stands out.

Let's all show the world that we don't live in igloos year-round! (Or, insert some other stereotype-busting comment here...) 😀

Oooooo !!!
I'm in 😀

I'll be in Vancouver/Victoria during the first week of July so, I'm hoping I can snap something beautiful - I'll be biding my time... *insert evil arcane laughter*

Cheers
Dave

Good, thanks Joe. Prize is a cup of coffee awarded by me for a picture that pleases me. To enter this lottery, just post your photos to this thread, add a few works of description if you want. Camera/lens/film/developer info is interesting to us gear heads.

Good luck at the ski trials, Joe... but I doubt your sled dogs will want to go out when it's 50 below freezing. Make sure you get the snowmobile ready. I'm going to make money this summer by sitting at the border down south and selling sweaters, toques, and snow shoes to unprepared travellers coming north! 😀

I would love to participate if only someone could please tell me how to post a picture. Do i have to reduce it ? If so, how?

For that matter, how can I post an Avatar ? 😕

Your help would really be appreciated by this young but sometimes computer challanged senior.

Best regards to all,

Bill K. 😕 😕

ok bill, here goes, from another computer challanged senior.

to post in a thread, hit the 'post reply' button above the quick reply box.
when the screen changes go towards the bottom of the page and find the 'manage attachments' button, click on it. then you can upload any photos off your hard drive.
my photos are usually about 800 on the long side so they can viewed whole on the screen if clicked on.

for an avatar, hit user cp (control panel) on the top of this screen.
on the left side of the upcoming screen you will see a range of options, pick add/change avavtar (can't recall the exact words)
the avatar pic needs to be 125 x 125 i think.

Hi Bill,

To post a photo, your picture needs to be stored in your comuter as a digital file (.jpg). To post a pic in a thread, you can't use the quick reply box, you must choose the "post reply" button below the last post. Click on it and a new window opens. You type in the words you want to appear in your post, then scroll down a bit to find the "manage attachments" button. Click on it and a new window opens. Click on the "browse" button and try to locate the picture file in your computer. Click on the picture (or picture file name) and click on the "upload" button. Wait a bit depending on the speed of your internet connection, once done uploading, you click on "close this window" button, then click on the "submit reply" button, and there, Bob's your uncle!

Hi Joe,

I have Photoshop & reduced my image to 125 X 100. When I try to upload, I still get a message that the file is too big. Time to give up for now and try again on Monday.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Bill K.

Hi Frank and Joe

I need to set something straight. The O Canada idea was definitely Joe's , not mine. I tried to encourage participation by posting a 'prize/prix' for the fun of it. I thought 'a bowl of soup' was a humourous approach to the idea of a prize. It was actually a 'Tim H' coupon. Total value is $2.00 Canadian. It will probably cost more for the stamp, envelope, letter and time than the prize.

It was never intended to be a competition, ever!

So if Frank wants to pick up the slack I'm all for it. There is no reason not to see our RFF members put more pix up. I thought that was one of the reasons for our forum.

All long winded explanations now are complete. It was all subjective. So really it doesn't mean anything except it revealed how I think. Maybe that was not such a good idea?

Frank, I'm in!

cheers, to all participants

Jan

jan, there was never a problem with your idea or the tim's coupon.

it IS all about participation and for us, to show off our 'home & native land' 😉.

i just wanted all to be clear that, except for jorge's official type contests, there would be limits set.

thanks for understanding guys, it helps me breathe easier.
