Just got a cute phishing email. Claims to be from the IRS saying I have a refund due me of $63.80. Pity for them I've gotten my refund already... even more a pity that the links lead to a server in .ro and even with in this age of outsourcing I doubt that Romainians are running the IRS web servers 😛

Doubt anyone here would be fooled, but I thought I should mention it just in case.

Not a problem here in the UK - we never get tax refunds :-(

Although the tax man taketh he did giveth me about £100 two years ago.

But it's always a cheque, in the post, without me having to do anything.

it means, what it says, mihai. Just like the nigerian scammers don't do it for the fun, there are also some people in other places (like Romania, in this case) that are born poor, and are too lazy to do something legitimate to earn their living. It is a bit of our fault too, who waste too much.

Fact is, if you are born rich, you don't need to do this..
But it also doesn't keep anyone from doing this. Wealth doesn't equate to moral standards. The bag of tricks may differ, but on the ethics scale it's no different.

Many of the "419" scammers don't act on their own. They don't even have the money themselves to buy internet access time. The scammer works for someone 'higher up the social ladder' who funds internet access time, expects a return on investment, and stays out of the heat when things go bad..

I've just read an article on a nigerian boy who got wealthy from the '419' scams.
Kind of interview.
It was very interesting to find out details. Like, they are doing it from a public netclub, which has written on its door "No 419 emailing from this club". It's apparently a high level of corruption, involves from the club owner up to the people of the law, everybody more or less.

You're right of course. Everybody's stealing, just that wealthy people do it on a larger scale🙂

What I was meaning originally, is, that everybody tries to survive somehow, and some who have infavourable background (financial, educational, social) might be more 'motivated' to cheat for that. Of course this does not mean that everybody's doing it from that category, like it also does not mean that only these people do it!
I guess Mihai took it somewhat personally, which is a bit stupid since he obviously has nothing to do with it; moreover, i myself was also born in romania but i know much more nice romanians than nasty ones.
