i hope i don't start a war here...
i was out this morning, shooting with both the xp1 and the xe1...and it was just so damned enjoyable.
for me, as an amateur photographer, this is really what it's all about...the experience, not a paycheck or accolades...just for a joy filled morning of feeling good!
sure, i would love to come home with award winning shots, but so far that hasn't happened...but i did come home with a smile on my face.
my kit fits completely into my bag, is easy to extract and put back in...if i want to carry less, there are smaller or no bags...whatever!
bottom line...sure, it can be about the 'gear' but more so, it's about why we do it and how we feel about doing it!

You got it right Joe! I love to go out and just shoot for the joy of it.
When I get back and feel good and then have the roll or rolls developed
and I happen to get a winner, I am so Happy! If not, maybe next time.
The main thing is feeling good about it.

The best camera is one that still works!
Any camera I'm using makes me happy at the time ... from my P67iii to my DP2M. They only seem to become favourites or otherwise when they're not actually being used.
Does that statement make sense?

100% behind this. You've got to enjoy the process as much as the product.
Back when I was doing paid jobs, photography started to become very, very dull and only about the commodity of it all. I decided then and there that I was only going to shoot for myself.

On the way up to the hospital this morning, I had my Minox in my pocket, so I took it out and shot half a roll of people and buildings.
Joy.

Well, actually, it was the latter half of a roll, or I'd have shot some more. If I'd had a spare roll with me, I'd have happily swapped that in (i must be lucky, as I've never had trouble with loading mine, so long as I have somewhere safe for the back (and gripped between third and fourth fingers on my right hand seems to work adequately well)).
I've not really been feeling the love for my G11 this week, as the conditions I've been in play to its weaknesses. But I set it to mono, and saw some still lifes on the ward.

Sounds like where I`d like to be.
Kit wise I`m starting to think along the same lines.

But seriously, I'm puzzled. If people are shooting just for the pleasure of shooting, rather than attempting to get good pictures, why do they need film in their cameras?
Edit: Addendum from Frances: "They don't. That's why they shoot digital."
Cheers,
R.

Hi, Roger and Frances. The journey is as enjoyable as the arrival.
