i'm a diabetic...one day the eyes are fine, next day i have problems focusing...apparently it has something to do with pressure behind the eyes...some diabetics can have several pairs of glasses and see which works best for a particulay day.

Ahh ... so it's a focus problem and not a light problem!

I understand totally because I wear contact lenses that are affected by relative humidity ... on a bad day (extremely dry) my vision can be all over the place so I can imagine your problems. I'd forgotten you were diabetic and I'm familiar (not personally) with the vision issues this condition brings to the table.

Maybe you need an Xpro? 😀

i went with the nikon dslr. for less than the fuji with the 35 lens...i have a d90/d200 pluse 5 lenses

and to add to what keith said, even if you DO need to shoot low light, for those occasions (and lets be honest its probably the minority of most work, well i should say for me atleast to some extent) the R-D1 and a fast lens push quite nicely at 1600, and for your eyes, getting great at scale focusing will be ideal. The AF often fail in that light anyway. My 35 1.2 and 50 1.4 have not put me in a situation where i couldn't get the shot, except!! for the rare AYE-AYE forest exhibit i saw, which is a pitch black (with blue ambient light) exhibit where the aye aye live (nocturnal). But to be fair, my d700 couldnt do it either, at any ISO. 🙂

I really dislike auto focus and I have a couple of cameras that are supposedly state of the art (D700 and F6) and they both pi$$ me off when I use them in the way they faff about while focusing.

I generally use them with manual lenses for this reason but did have a 24-120 G series Nikkor on the F6 the other day and it had me grinding my teeth in no time! When my eyes fail me completely I'll probably have to find a new interest! LOL

+1 on the aging eyes issue. I am in the same boat as I got older my visual acuity got worse. Bright day light helps a lot here. But my days with a slr are long gone. I can still use an rf camera, but cameras like the Fuji, Ricoh gxr and Sony which can provide at least magnified view is getting to be a must for me if I use a manual focus camera. The dslr af are an option but I really don't want to carry the weight any longer. Cameras like the Fuji I hope will keep me shooting longer.

In a similar boat with R-D1 only I don't think I can part with that camera. Lately I've been using the X100 as a walk around camera that's always with me. Thinking the X-Pro1 would be a good option to make use of my M-mount lenses. Am I off my rocker?

i also cannot bring myself to sell the rd1 for the fuji and so must save/wait for any new large purchase...

Just wait until you are bored if the Nikon (if that happens), then move to the Fuji. As long as you are making photos and happy, the camera won't matter.
